I was very fortunate to have Vallie as my counsellor in Ottawa. She saved me at a very low time in my life, and I always remember her as the wind beneath my wings. She taught me to fly again my condolences to her family and friends and Vallie you will always hold a special part of my heart.

I met Vallie at a couple of programs at Dorje Denma Ling. She stood out. I remember Kevin trimming trees outside the shrine room on a chilly, white day. And I attended a couple of the daily zoom meditations that were so tender. Thanks to Kristine McCutcheon for keeping people in the Shambhala community in touch through Vallie's dying. It is so inspiring to read her obituary and the tributes here.

I'm so sad to hear this news. I worked with Vallie at Nelson House for several years and realized her potential. I also remember her participation in the production of 'Hair"! Including the nude scene! Such an amazing accomplished woman. So sorry for your loss.

Val and I shared a deep love for Lake Weslemkoon in Ontario, Canada. Our time spent did not overlap, but our spirit and love for the lake certainly did. Thanks for the memories.

Sincere condolences, Kevin and to all of Vallie's friends and loved ones. I had the great privilege of working with Vallie in Ottawa at a law firm, and later reconnecting in New Brunswick as we both volunteered on the board of the Pay Equity Coalition. What a positive, energetic and committed person she was. She was an inspiration, a guide and a wonderful fellow traveller. I am grateful for her memory.

I remember Vallie as a little girl, my cousin, when we connected at Lake Welemkoon. She was a pure spirit then, and I feel her being the same now. My mother, Carolyn Stearns (now deceased), had a special connection with Vallie. I think Carolyn was able to be the mother she wanted to be with Vallie. And I think Vallie had a similar dynamic on her side, although I can't say for sure.
I have felt the two of them together during this time of Vallie's transition. Carolyn extending her hand, and them both dancing off. Vallie coming back to this world for a time - and then going off again. And now they are just together. I feel them circle around me now and then, but not very much - they are too busy! I think of them exploring these new wonders together and my heart swells with the joy I feel emanating from them. Travel well, Vallie. And say hello to Carolyn for me.

Heartfelt condolences to Kevin, Beck, and all of those who loved and miss Vallie. Although I met Vallie through meditation practice, and learned a great deal from her, and am eternally grateful that she helped me to feel welcome enough to keep coming back, my most special memory that I wish to share is of an adventure I had the privilege of being a part of one day with Vallie and Kevin and Beck that included seeing sandpipers on a beach, and foraging for chanterelles in the woods, and having creamed kale for the first time. Thanks for including me as a "guest" into your unique world, it was a real gift that I treasure. I've donated to the NB Coalition for Pay Equity and joined them as well in Vallie's honour.

Vallie fought for justice for different people and for working people, but the obituary and other people in the funeral meeting said these things better than I ever can. I wish we could have met more, and I will miss her.

I met Vallie in 2015 when we were both at a Meditation encampment & for a few years I would see her at various practices. She always modelled grace, dignity, especially strength & kindness & I learned alot just from being in her presence. Today I’m at a meditation program at Dorje Denma Ling and we dedicated practice to her & placed her photo on the main shrine where it will be for 49 days in a place she loved. Eh Ma Hoh!

A fearless paddler on the Retigouche. She never wanted to let an eddy pass by at least explored more than once. As recalled By Norm Hunter, Kevin was asked to take the bow as Vallie wanted to command the boat. She was a shining light that lived life as she wanted, and well.

Despite the sadness of saying goodbye to Vallie, we have a deep contentment in the knowledge that we knew and loved such a special person. We experienced her light and love in return. We will not forget her. And her memory will surely live on in the photos of her when she took to the stage. What a joy it was to see her bring life to many characters in the plays she acted in. And Kevin...we will not forget you either. We remain available to you however you have need in the coming weeks and months. Your friends Stephen & Jerry.
