Christine Ritchie

Obituary of Christine Annette Ritchie

It is with both sorrowful spirits and good grief that we announce the passing of Christine Annette Ritchie (nee Baigent) in Sackville, NB at the age of 60. She died peacefully, surrounded by many loved ones, with her sense of humour still intact.

A collector of wayward souls, Chris’s door was always open, and the coffee pot was always on. Her heart could fill a room. Fortunately for those who spent time with her, she chose to fill her heart with people. If she was your advocate, anyone who was critical of you was then her adversary. She was a fierce protector of loved ones, most particularly her children Raymond (Morgan), Kendra (James), and Mitchel (Lisa), whom she shared with her high school sweetheart and husband of 36 years, Patrick Scott Ritchie.

A child of the military, she followed her growing up years in Dartmouth NS, Borden ON, and Chatham NB, with her adult years in Calgary, where her children were born, to more than a decade in the United States. She loved summer nights in Pennsylvania, the entire family in the pool until midnight, and her garden by the creek. When back home in the Maritimes, she loved to be close to the ocean. She eventually returned permanently to New Brunswick to help care for her father, true to her giving nature.

Daughter, sister, wife, mother, friend (and witch?) – she is survived by many who will miss her, especially her mother, Marlene, her siblings Sandra, Rick and Donna Baigent, her nieces Sophie, Sequoia and Phoenix, and her large extended family and many friends. She was predeceased by her father, Richard, in 2019.

A sincere thank you to all the staff at the Dr. Sheldon Rubin Cancer Centre in Moncton, particularly the nurses on the chemo ward. A special thanks to the amazing nurses and staff on Brunswick at the Sackville Memorial Hospital, and to her guardian angel Pamelam. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rubin Cancer Centre via the Friends of The Moncton Hospital Foundation.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Erin Campbell and the staff of Campbell’s Funeral Home, 89 Bridge Street, Sackville N.B. (506) 364-8188. In keeping with Christine's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no visiting hours or funeral service.
