Obituary of Rhoda (Hicks) Purvis
It is with deep sadness that the family of Rhoda Purvis announces her passing on August 10, 2023 at the Sackville Memorial Hospital at the age of 84.
Rhoda was the oldest daughter of Hazel and Charles Hicks and was born in Sackville, NB. She had the opportunity to live in countries outside Canada while married to Tanya’s father, a military man. She was always proud to call Sackville, NB her home and returned to the area with her daughter Tanya in 1980. She married her second husband, Hugh Purvis in 1988 and made her home in Dorchester, NB until the time of her passing. Rhoda lived her life with resilience and demonstrated the same until her Heavenly Father called her home.
Rhoda is survived by her daughter, Tanya Stokes (Mike) of Las Vegas, Nevada; her sister, Pauline Estabrooks (Lewis); her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Bob and Jean Purvis of Scotland, as well as by many nieces, nephews and extended family. She will be dearly missed by her good friends of many years, the Carters (Cindy and Doug) and the Kayes (Monica and Jason) and their children, Joe, Matt & Lindsay who considered Rhoda as a grandmother. She is also survived by her first husband, Frank and fondly missed by the entire Stokes family.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Hazel Hicks; her father, Charles Hicks and her beloved husband Hugh Purvis.
Rhoda, a remarkable soul, left an indelible mark on the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her and she is lovingly remembered. Rhoda’s journey was one of profound connections and heartfelt interaction. She truly touched many lives with her warmth and genuine kindness. From her early teen days at Mel’s Tearoom to her cherished moments at the Sackville Legion, Rhoda dedicated years to her beloved hometown. Rhoda’s smile was sweet, her humour a testament to her affectionate nature. Her penchant for good natured teasing was a hallmark of her affection, a sign that you had found a treasured place in her heart. As we bid farewell, let us celebrate the life of Rhoda, a woman who shared with us all her favorite motto: Live, Love, Laugh!
