To. Joan and Family.
We are so sorry to hear of Austin's passing. Precious and fond memories linger. Austin is now with the Lord and enjoying true fellowship with Jesus, his Lord and Savior. We await for the Second Coming of Jesus Christ, the dead will be raised and those who remain and beleive in Jesus to be taken up with them, the dead in Christ to meet Jesus in the air.
Love to you all.

We have fond memories of Austin and his past first wife Carol at their home in Oshawa. We played many card games and had lots of laughs. Austin was very kind and an extremely talented woodworker. Our daughter Kristen remembers many visits with Austin and Carol and had great times at their home when she was young. Austin will be missed.

My fondest memories of my grandfather (known lovingly as Poppy) are the simplest ones...watching the talented hand of a wood-carver as he whittled with my grandmother. His kind but stern voice, his wisdom and laughter. Visiting them in my youth and seeing the wonderful garden oasis that was their back yard, or just walking by the lake. The simple, seemingly uneventful days are the ones I remember him by, his honest kindness.
Poppy and Nanny (Austin's first wife, Carol, my grandmother) were a huge inspiration to me as an artist. They taught me to Make and carve and to doodle (that was more Nanny's thing), and I owe them a lot in the person and artist I am today, even if I don't carve all that much.
I would like to share a little of Austin's work, and add a link to a (now memorial) account we set up for him years ago to showcase some of his talent: https://www.deviantart.com/aushicks

You always seemed to be there when someone needed you; whether it was a kind word, some thoughtful advice, or something funny to cheer you up. I always enjoyed being able to visit or when you would visit. You will be missed Poppy.

Dad, we will miss you but know that you are in a better place and will be reunited with Mom and your sisters and brother. Your great grandchildren will be told many stories of you and Mom at Rocky Acre and all of the adventures we got up to. Love you so much from Wanda and Brian

Dad you will be missed by everyone here in Ontario. Our greatest memories were the years we spent as a family going to Rocky Acre where we camped, fished and worked so hard sometimes bedtime could not come soon enough. Give mom and our grandparents a big hug. And a big thanks to Todd and his family who helped out so much.
