Obituary of Mary Pond Whittleton

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Mary Pond Whittleton at home on January 9, 2023, after a brave battle with early-onset Alzheimer's disease.

Mary will be greatly missed by her best friend and loving husband of 44 years, Michael, children, John, Sarah, Molly (Conrad), Peter (Stacey), Jacob, and grandchildren, Philip, Edmund, Scarlett, and Emily.

Mary was born in Halifax on October 28, 1953. She was the daughter of the late Roy (Shirley) Pond and late Thelma Pond, and sister of Charlotte (Al) Pond and Ruth (Paul) Pond-Kirk. Mary graduated from Queen Elizabeth High School in Halifax and completed a BA from Dalhousie University, a BEd from Acadia University and her MEd from Mount Saint Vincent University.

Mary will be remembered as an incredible mother, wife, and teacher. She leaves this world having shared her kindness, patience, creativity, positivity, thoughtfulness, and contagious smile. She had a great sense of humour and loved to laugh. Mary had a wonderful ability to truly enjoy life and was up for anything. She had a passion for teaching and was loved by her students. She enjoyed anything involving art and loved her garden. Mary was encouraging, supportive, and helped everyone in any way she could. Her family meant the world to her, and she meant the world to them. To be loved by Mary was truly something special.
