John was a loving common law husband to my mother Daylene for many years and they treasured one another's companionship. John treated her and my family with kindness and generosity and I cherish many happy memories of them both. I treasure my experiences of traveling with them within Eastern Canada and in Ontario and our family times spent together in Michigan. I have included a photo from one of these trips taken in 2008. My sincere condolences to John's family and to all who are grieving this loss.

I remember Johannes as a very hospitable brother in law. It was very nice to stay at Johannes en Anneke. Beautiful rides to Prince Edward Island and the farm. To Norman at the Atlantic coast. It was beautiful. I wish the family a lot of strength and love with this loss. Kind regards, Tineke en Coert (in loving memory).

John and I spent many hours together organizing the annual turkey supper at Sackville United Church. He had to convince me a number of times that we had the resources to do it and he was right! What I loved was that John did not view it as a fundraising event, he viewed it as a community event. John felt we were providing a vital service to the community of Sackville by hosting the supper each year. And again he was right! The church was always alive and filled with spirit preparing, serving and enjoying this delicious meal! Condolences to John’s family.

John was one of my favourite professors at MTA back in the 60s and he was possibly the reason I decided to major in Economics. He truly loved teaching and cared for his students. My sympathy to Rebecca and other members of John’s family.

It was always heartwarming to see John, usually accompanied by his daughter Rebecca, enjoying Sackville United Church services off and on over the past several years. It reminded me of the six years that I cared for my own father, James Sutherland Thom, also wheelchair-bound, who was a resident of the Drew just as John was, for the last years of his life. It warmed my heart to see the loving care that his daughter gave to him, bringing him to the church to worship together in community. My condolences to everyone of his immediate and extended family.
