Dear Sarah,
I am saddened to awake each morning knowing you are not present in your usual milieu. This loss is unfathomable for all of us, but most impossibly so for your Mom and Dad, and for Laura, Jason, your grandparents and, of course, your Adam. But rest assured, Sarah, we will all take good care of them through their grief. I pray that you are at peace on the other side, and that you can feel all the love shining through the walls of our physical confines.
This week-end past was a love-filled experience. All your family and friends from near and far, literally hundreds of people, assembled. We said our farewells to the ‘you’ we have known, holding you close to our hearts. It was a time which felt shared with you, your joyful spirit and marvellous smile a presence amongst our sadness. Now we will seek you where all bright stars and all life’s angels inspire comfort and hope on starry nights, where shores bring waves home in gentle laps or awe-inspiring splashes, on mountain tops that reach into endless skies, on the Tantramar Marsh where the wind always freshens and ripples tall grasses. Your spirit will be in our hearts wherever we journey, reminding us of what a gift it is to smile at another person and be their friend.

My heart goes out to you all. I had the honour and privilege to work with Sarah when she was a Nutrition and Dietetics student at Acadia, and then through her Practicum. I was the professor for courses Sarah took in her 2nd, 3rd, and 4th years, and supervised her practicum research project. She worked so hard, no 'ask' in terms of asking her to work on a part of a project was ever too much, she was committed to learning. She sought advice on research approaches and made informed decisions based on thinking through the complex issues we discussed. I remember clearly Sarah's Senior Seminar presentation on the nutritional benefits of wild blueberries. The pride she conveyed when talking about the family business was incredible. I was a little jealous, quite frankly, that she was part of a family who worked together and on the land to produce something of which they were/are so proud. I learned a lot about blueberries from Sarah and I'll think of her in the summer when my plants are producing. I always tell students that one of the wonderful things about working in nutrition and dietetics is that we are a small community and we will know and likely work with each other the rest of our lives. Thus, I offer assurance that the faculty of the School of Nutrition and Dietetics, all of the graduates in Sarah's class cohort, and dietitians and others who were connected to Sarah's practicum training are terribly saddened to learn of her passing. So many lovely words have been written about Sarah's wonderful smile, her kindness, and her thoughtfulness. Working with Sarah was a special treat for me as a prof as she was so invested in her learning to become a highly skilled, compassionate and empathetic dietitian..to do work that makes a difference in the lives of others. I am so proud of her accomplishments and I will miss her. I will be in Sackville on Saturday along with other colleagues from the School of Nutrition and Dietetics. Sending love to all.

Sarah was a wonderful person, she was bright in both her mind and her spirit. She was memorable to all those she met and she will be deeply missed by all. I am sending all my thoughts to her family and friends during this immensely sad and difficult time.
