We were saddened to hear of Joyce's passing and after reading the articulate and heart-felt thoughts of our friends and acquaintances we can only say "We agree!" Laing and Joyce were among the first people we met here in Sackville in 1991 and we always appreciated their sociability, warmth and friendship. They showed us all how to live a great life. Our condolences to their sons and grandchildren.

Joyce was an amazing woman. A bright light amongst all. For years Joyce and Laing enjoyed many of the same parties as I (!!!) and both brought laughter and happiness in abundance. Whether it was Scottish Country dancing or a classical music concert, an art exhibition or an afternoon of Christmas Carol singing, or even a summer croquet game at A&A’s, Joyce was in the midst of the action — and always made sure you were having fun, too. Joyce was a deeply devoted wife, a wonderful mother, and her years of dedicated work at Mount Allison helped our university to thrive in countless ways. I miss her, and will always treasure my many memories. Marilyn joins me in sending our sincere and heartfelt sympathy to all of Joyce’s family and her many friends. Janet Hammock and Marilyn Lerch

Joyce was such a wonderful woman — kind, generous, funny, and welcoming. When we moved back to Sackville after many years away, she made us feel right at home and included us in so many events and gatherings. She was the same gracious person to everyone she met. She will be sorely missed. Mark and I send our sincere sympathy to her family members and dear friends.

It was a shock today, to learn of the passing of Joyce Ferguson. My sincere sympathy to the boys and families. Eldon and I had connections with she and Laing when we first arrived at MtA in 1962. Our paths drifted, but I always respected Joyce and felt her as a friend. One very special gesture of kindness she made to me was on the dance floor of Truman Hall! May your memories of a wonderful and special woman help your hearts heal. Sincerely,Vivien(Hay) Hicks

My condolences to Neil, Andrew, and Kirk. I knew Joyce for pretty much my entire life, coming over to the house often since I was a small child. She was always kind and welcoming. I was always impressed with her positive outlook, even in tough times. She was a good friend not only to me, but to my parents Elmer and Audrey, and the times she was there for them will never be forgotten. She will be greatly missed, but her life well-lived should be celebrated.

My sincere condolences to the whole family. Joyce was a lovely, gracious woman, a great companion to Laing, and an engaged and busy soul. I am sorry I cannot be present in Sackville for the memorial, but I will be there in spirit. Thinking, with gratitude, of her many contributions to the town over the years, and the many lives she touched with hers. Well done, thou good and faithful servant; may you rest from your labours and enjoy your rewards.
