Please accept my most sincere condolences.
He came to my Dad’s (Jim Leggett) funeral, with Purdy, and made it a point to introduce himself to me. They, and Buckle, also went to the hospital to visit my Dad and I was told there was lots of laughter as they remembered their time together. Finally he was kind enough to send the following memory of my Dad which I sincerely appreciate.
When things are low, always remember the good times to lift you up.

Lori, Lynda, Jamie and Jeff - so sorry to hear that Ron has passed, and that things were more difficult for him recently. Your lovely Dad taught me in Sackville in the late 1970s and I've never forgotten him. As well as being a spectacular teacher, when some of us in his French class expressed interest in learning another language, we landed on German and he so sweetly gave us his time after school once a week for the rest of that school year - true to his nature, he not only taught us language proficiency, but about the culture and the country too.
Ron and Lois also became great friends with my Mum and Dad (Tommy and Irene (RIP) Thompson) while they lived in Sackville in the late 1970s - Lori and Lynda you may recall them staying with your Mum and Dad in June of 1980 when they returned to Sackville from Barbados for my TRHS graduation...the day of our ceremony, friends and I had taken my little sister (about 6 at the time) to the dairy bar and filled her with hot dogs and ice-cream for lunch - she still remembers throwing up copiously during the proceedings, one of the Smiths swiftly coming to get her and taking her home, and being hosed down in the garden before being stripped and taken inside for bathing and re-dressing. When we returned to your house later, she was having a great time with your Mum and Dad (and the lovely big dog) - was happily basking in their attention (not missing us at all) and we were so grateful for their love and kindness.
Ron made an impression on every student - he had a knack for intuitively knowing how to reach the curiosity in each of us and tease the best of our potential out of us. I can still see him clearly standing outside of his TRHS classroom at the top of the stairs - that strong presence and the rich, booming voice as he called hello to students moving about, and the warm twinkle in those lovely eyes as we traipsed past him into the room.
A life well lived indeed, and a life that touched others deeply.

I cleaned a whole red snapper for the first time in my life today in Ron's honour. I cooked it Creole style and it was delicious. All the time I was trying not to stab myself, I was hearing Ron's voice tell me that the scars on his hands were as a result of removing the bones from fish. He also said his favourite seafood was a perfectly cooked scallop. So sorry I cannot be at the celebration of life tomorrow, but will be there in spirit. Rest in peace dear Ron.

To Ron's family: It was a pleasure to be a colleague of Ron's. He was always positive, and so focussed on his students and colleagues. Someone commented on his booming voice and I had to smile. It certainly was that. His warmth and friendliness to all was constant. With warm memories and condolences,

To Lori, Lynda, Jeff and Jamie - my sincere condolences in the recent loss of your father. He was a great man. When he came to visit us in Montreal with your mother, we always knew he was in the room - between his voice and his physical presence - and he was always so interested in others and interesting to listen to. We have plenty of wonderful pictures and memories of the great times your parents shared with my parents and his other siblings and their spouses. They had so much fun together. May your memories of him bring you comfort at this difficult time.
Margo Conlon (nee Dufresne) and the Dufresne family.

Dear Lori, Lynda, Jamie, Jeff and families, Phil and I send our deepest sympathy on the passing of your dear Dad, Grandfather and our Uncle Ron. We have lots of wonderful memories of family times, jokes, laughter and of course Uncle Ron’s big booming voice and oh that laugh! Although it is never easy to lose the ones we love I hope in time those cherished memories will replace tears with smiles and always keep him close. With love and sympathy, Phil and Nancy

Dear Jeff, Lynda, Lori and families. What a wonderful life your dad lived and created for you all. I glimpsed a tiny fraction of his wonderful spirit, personality and worldliness in the very short time I knew him with our limited conversation. He was born the same year as my dad and had the same beautiful reverence for all cultures and religion. One of the things he said to me was, "people should understand that all people are the same". So worldly, so humble and such a kind himan being. It was an honour to know him. So unfortunate we did not meet sooner. Even in the most difficult part of his life journey, he remained a truly kind gentleman. May God keep you all in His tender loving care through the difficult days ahead. My sincere condolences, Vivienne

Thinking of you as a family during this difficult time. I had Ron as a Vice-Principal at Woodstock High in the early 70’s and connected over the years in Moncton. I was able to share with him my journey in teaching and the influence he had on me as a young man. He was a caring and well respected educator and touched many lives. May God’s Holy Spirit Guide and Comfort you all during this time. Fred Veysey, Retired Vice-Principal
