Obituary of Irene Read

It is with great sadness that the family of Irene Read, age 93, of Sackville, NB, announces her passing at the Drew Nursing Home on Sunday, January 24, 2021. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Born in Sackville, NB on July 14, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Courtney and Violet (Cole) Estabrooks. Irene was formerly employed with Mount Allison University’s Bookstore and she attended the Main Street Baptist Church. She was a 44-year member of the Ruby Rebekah Lodge #16 and a Past Noble Grand. Irene had enjoyable memories at her Indian Point cottage where she loved walking to the lighthouse and having family visits. She also enjoyed playing cards and bowling. Irene was pre-deceased by her husband, Harvey. She will be sadly missed by her children, Linda (Roger) Estabrooks, Thomas (Dora) Read, Nancy (Allan) Mattinson and Susan Read (Stewart O’Connor); her grandchildren, Kimberly, Michael, Richard, Christine, Alexander, Stephen, Tara, Alana, Niki, Melissa, Amie, Lacey and Kaylee as well as by her great-grandchildren, Gabrielle, Grayson, Robyn, Quinn, Madison, Allan, Ryleigh, Abigail, Wyatt, Emmi, Tyler, Joe, Nash, Rheed, Cedric and Aida. In addition to her parents and husband, she was pre-deceased by her sisters, Frances (Earl) Marks and Shirley Estabrooks, as well as by her brothers, Thornton and Donald (Pat) Estabrooks. Irene will be truly missed. Her strong will, her kind heart and the love she had for her family is what she leaves for us in our memories and in our hearts. The family wishes to send a heartfelt thank you to the Drew Nursing Home staff for their care and kindness during Irene’s stay there. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Campbell’s Funeral Home, 89 Bridge Street, Sackville N.B. (506) 364-8188. In keeping with Irene’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. There will be a family graveside service in the spring in the Sackville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Irene may be made to the Sackville Hospital Auxiliary or to the charity of one’s choice.
