Obituary of J. Audrey E. (Shepherd) Ingalls
It is with deep sadness that we must announce the passing of Audrey Ingalls on Monday, July 18, 2016 at the Sackville Memorial Hospital. Audrey passed away peacefully at the age of 89 with her family at her side.
Born in Grand Harbour, N.B. on August 9, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Hughitson Burns and Madeline Ruby (Green) Shepherd.
Audrey was raised on Wood Island and went to High School in Castalia and Blacks Harbour. She married James Ingalls in August of 1945. The two were founding members of the Grand Harbour Reformed Baptist Church, which later became Central Wesleyan. She studied at Bethany Bible College in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia and was licensed to preach with the Church of the Nazarene. After a move to Western Canada, she ran a mission for the Church of the Nazarene out of the Ingalls’ home in Farmington, British Columbia. James and Audrey retired to Grand Manan in 1988, re-uniting with family and re-connecting with many old friends and making many new ones. With friends they played music together at the nursing home, in churches and at special events around the Island. Around 2010 she moved with James to Saint John, where the two attended Trinity Church. Audrey took the opportunity to take up painting, and spent many happy hours in front of canvases. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and friend. She is greatly missed.
Audrey will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 70 years, James; her sisters, Jean Green, Christine Lomax, and Patricia McNab; her brothers, Fraser (Lillian) Shepherd, Murray (Elva) Shepherd and Wendell (Elaine) Shepherd; her daughter, Elaine (Hugh) Hogg; her sons, Norman (Joanne) Ingalls, Laurie Ingalls (Faye Wardrop) and Ranall (Sherry) Ingalls; her grandchildren Heather Austin, Heidi Inman, Shaney Clough and Jodey, Laine, Nicholas, Aidan and David Ingalls, as well as by her thirteen great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents, Hughitson Burns and Madeline Ruby (Green) Shepherd; her sister, Bernice (Charlie) Thompson and by her brother, Allison.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Campbell’s Funeral Home, 89 Bridge Street, Sackville, N.B. (364-8188).
