Obituary of Reginald Ian Holland

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Reginald Ian Holland, 77, on Tuesday, December 31, 2024 at the Drew Nursing Home in Sackville, NB.

Born on May 28, 1947 in Port Greville, NS, he was the son of the late Constance Gladys (Hatfield) Holland and George Holland.

Reg left home at a young age and worked as a farmhand and in the apple orchards in the Valley.  As he got older, he worked for Hugh Wood and Norman Copp in the woods and for Lovitt Carters garage in Point de Bute.  Reg went back and obtained his Grade 12 diploma so he could work for the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure until his health forced him to retire early.  He was area President for Cupe Fredericton and a volunteer fireman with the Point de Bute Fire Department for 14 years until a heart attack forced him to leave the positions he loved.

Reg loved spending time with Wendy’s children since he hadn’t had any of his own and his time spent with his brothers and sister. He loved taking drives back to Port Greville, NS, where he was born, especially enjoying talking with old friends that remembered him as a child. He loved to walk the beach and walk the dogs. He enjoyed watching the deer in the field by his house and tending his garden every summer until the time came that he couldn’t plant anymore. He enjoyed watching re-runs of M*A*S*H even if he had just watched the episode. Reg will be missed by all of his family, as well as by his extended family.

Reg will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 18 years, Wendy Jean (Turner) Holland; his stepson, Ernie Trenholm; his stepdaughter, Janice Trenholm; his siblings, Reta (Corey); Patricia (Charles); Greta (Ellsworth) and Ted (Tanya), as well as by several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Besides his parents, Reginald was predeceased by his stepfather, Charles McWhirter; his sister, Trudy McWhirter; his brother, Sidney McWhirter, his sister-in-law, Betty Ann McWhirter, as well as by his stepson, Jeremy Trenholm.

Reg’s family wishes to send a heartfelt thank you to the Drew Nursing Home staff for making Reg’s time there so wonderful. Your kindness will never be forgotten.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Erin Campbell and the staff of Campbell’s Funeral Home, 89 Bridge Street, Sackville N.B. (506) 364-8188. Following Reg’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of Reg’s life will take place at the Drew Nursing Home in Coate’s Lounge on Saturday, January 11, 2025 from 2-4 pm. All of Reg’s relatives, friends and Drew family are invited to attend. A graveside service will take place in the spring in the Baie Verte Cemetery and all are welcome to attend. Details will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Reg’s memory may be made to the Drew Nursing Home, the Canadian Diabetes Association or the charity of one’s choice.
