Obituary of Nelson Estabrooks

It is with great sadness that the family of Robert Nelson Estabrooks, announces his passing at the Sackville Memorial Hospital on Sunday, October 6, 2024. Nelson passed away peacefully, with his family by his side at the age of 88.

 

Born in Midgic, NB on October 18, 1935, he was the son of the late Alder Estabrooks and Jesse (Hicks) Estabrooks.

 

Nelson was employed as a cook at Mount Allison University for forty-nine years and he was involved in several CB Radio Clubs, was a Ham Radio Operator and he helped with Search and Rescue. Nelson was a member of the Sackville Snow Drifters, especially enjoying his 50 years spent snowmobiling with his son Stephen, as well as their yearly hunting trips. He played music in his own band and with his son Curtis, enjoying Blue Grass music the most. Nelson and Gloria loved spending time at their cottage and being with all of their cottage friends.

 

Nelson will be lovingly remembered by his wife of over 70 years, Gloria (Ward) Estabrooks; his sons, Stephen (Judy) and Curtis (Joanne); his grandchildren, Nicholas (Christina), Marcus and Kiersten; his sister, Juanita, as well as by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

 

Besides his parents, he was pre-deceased by his sisters, Rhobena, Christena, Hattie and Grace, his brothers, Lawrence, Davis, Vincent, Alder, Wesley and Henderson, as well as by a sibling in infancy.

 

Nelson’s family wishes to send a heartfelt thank you to the Extramural Nurses who cared for Nelson as well as a special thank you to the Sackville Paramedics, Port Elgin Fire Department and the staff at the Sackville Memorial Hospital.

 

Arrangements have been entrusted to Erin Campbell and staff of Campbell’s Funeral Home, 89 Bridge Street, Sackville NB. In keeping with Nelson’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no visiting hours or funeral service.

 

If desired, donations in memory of Nelson may be made to the Sackville Memorial Hospital Auxiliary or to the charity of one’s choice.
