Obituary of Shirley Lucinda (Read) McCarthy

It is with great sadness that the family of Shirley (Read) McCarthy, announces her passing at the Drew Nursing Home on Thursday, March 7, 2024.  Shirley passed away at the age of 91 with her children by her side.

 

Born on July 1, 1932 in Dorchester Cape, NB, she was the daughter of the late Ida May (Buck) Read and John A. Read.

 

Shirley was liked by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her, enjoyed having company and was always friendly. She loved to play bingo at the Drew, listening to her music on the radio and getting her hair done. Shirley will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

 

Shirley will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Shelley Steeves; her son, Gary McCarthy; her sister-in-law, Gail (George) Archibald; her step-sisters, Bonnie (Roger) Blanchard, Cheryl Read and Sue (Ian), as well as by her extended family and friends.

 

Besides her parents, she was pre-deceased by her husband, James “Brud” McCarthy; her sons, Larry McCarthy and Brian McCarthy; her sisters, Ella Sears, Barb O’Neal and Gertrude Wilson; her brother, Ronald Read; her sister-in-law, Joan Allen, as well as by her step-brother, John Read Jr. (Buddy).

 

Arrangements have been entrusted to Erin Campbell and staff of Campbell’s Funeral Home, 89 Bridge Street, Sackville, N.B. (364-8188). In keeping with Shirley’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no visiting hours. A grave-side service will take place in the spring in the Sackville Cemetery.

 

If so desired, donations in memory of Shirley may be made to the Drew Tantramar Foundation, New Brunswick Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the charity of one’s choice.
