Obituary of Hubert (Hugh) Barnstead Jr.

Hubert (Hugh)Henry Barnstead Jr. B. Comm, BLS- Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia to parents Hubert and Ethel, he attended Tower Road School and Queen Elizabeth High School. Subsequently attended Saint Mary’s University (B. Comm 1967) and University of Toronto (BLS 1969).

Hugh’s career was varied and included Saint Mary’s University, Halifax, Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd., Whiteshell Nuclear Establishment, Pinawa, MB and Government of Manitoba (25 years) in various line and staff management positions. Other involvements include 12 years as an elected school trustee, St. James Assiniboia School Division No.2, Winnipeg and several years as a Director, Board of Directors, Credit Union Deposit Guarantee Corporation (Manitoba).

Hugh is survived by his son, William (Will) (Nayla) of Winnipeg, MB; daughter, Kathryn (Katie) (Steve) Hoffman of Delta, BC and grandchildren, Molly and Connor Hoffman. Also, sister, Elizabeth Olmstead (David) of Sackville, NB, nephew, Stephen Olmstead and niece, Mary Wilson.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Boniface Foundation.

A memorial service was held Friday, December 29, 2023 at 2 PM at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue.
