Obituary of John David Alexander Bedford
It is with deep sadness that we as a family announce the passing of John David Alexander Bedford on Sunday, December 17, 2023, at the Drew Nursing Home in Sackville, N.B, at the age of 79. Surrounded by his family, Dad was peacefully promoted to glory and is now with his Lord, whom he has served so faithfully.
Dad loved our Lord with all his heart and over the past two years longed to be with Him and now he is home and that is the great hope that we have as believers in the Lord Jesus.
Dad was a faithful member of Faith Baptist Church, Sydney, NS and was also a Gideon for many years. After leaving Sydney, Mom and Dad became members and got involved in churches in the areas that they lived and are members at Main Street Baptist presently.
Beloved husband of Judith Anne (Bray), for 58 years. Loving father of Carl Bedford (Janice Boudreau), New Waterford NS, Shauna Bedford, Sackville NB, Cathy (John) Farrell, Lower Sackville NS, David (Kathryn) Bedford, Riverview NB, Paul (Betty-Lynne) Bedford, Sackville NB and Heather (Danny) Barrett, Sackville NB.
Awesome and loving Papa of Brittney (Thomas), Brandon, Kyle, Timothy (Jamie), Courtney, Rebekah (Aiden), Kaitlin (Nathan), Meaghan, Timothy, Nathaniel, as well as beloved great-grandfather of Hunter.
John also leaves behind his sisters, Kaye (Allan) MacDonald and Ruth (Greg) Boone, as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Predeceased by his father, Alexander Bedford; his mother, Florance (Newell) Bedford; his stepmother, Jean (Wood) Bedford and his younger brother, Charlie Bedford.
John worked at Ben’s bakery (Sydney) for many years and enjoyed many other jobs along the way. After moving to Halifax, he worked with City Center Properties for 20 years and then retired, again and again. He loved to work and be around people. He loved children and young people as he spent many years as the Commander of Awana, the Sunday School Superintendent and Sunday School bus driver at Faith Baptist in Sydney. He also did discipleship with some young people who put their faith in Jesus.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Erin Campbell and staff of Campbell’s Funeral Home, 89 Bridge Street, Sackville NB, (506) 364-8188. A memorial visitation will be held at Main Street Baptist Church, 20 Main Street, Sackville NB, on Monday, January 8, 2024 between 12:30 PM – 1:30 PM with a Celebration of Life service starting at 2:00 PM in the church auditorium.
A special thank you to the nurses and staff of the Sackville Memorial Hospital for the great care you gave John when he was in the hospital.
No words can express how we feel about the care that was given by the wonderful staff at the Drew Nursing Home, Sackville, NB. The care given is beyond words, especially the day that Dad went to glory. Your care for him and compassion for us as a family will never be forgotten.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Main Street Baptist Church or to the chairty of one's choice.
