Merry Christmas, Uncle Barry. I will always fondly remember you teaching me to play House of the Rising Sun on the piano—my first foray into the “popular” music realm—your joining us alongside Rachel at all of our family celebrations, and visiting the cottage in Wasaga (and the ensuing shenanigans whenever a bee got near you).
Thank you dearly for the deep and lasting friendship you gave my father. Sending lots of love to Tony, Mike, and Rachel.

I remember meeting Barry for the 1st time about 35 years ago. His calm, thoughtful demeanor and sense of humour were so comfortable to be around. He was family - to the Oliver and then later to the Gregory clans. My Dad's nick-name of endearment for Barry was Skippy Denim - not sure why but it stuck. Perhaps it was a combination of boy'ish charm and a last name my elderly father just couldn't get right.
My fondest memories of Barry are cottage vacays at Wasaga, quite often with "Miss Rachel" in accompaniment. Those were golden days when our kids were young and we all lived closely together. Those days are missed.
My condolences go his beautiful family and loyal friends.

Barry Denman wasn’t just a friend of my Father’s to me he was Uncle Barry to my brother Shane and I. We spent half our childhood with him and his sons Tony and Michael at our cottage an hour north of Toronto.
I have memories of Barry that go as far back as when he would pick my Father up early Sunday morning and drive to Buffalo, New York to watch the Bills games when my brother and I were just toddlers. That was in the late 70’s
I am extremely grateful to have had Barry in my life as we chatted quite often. He was one of the very few people that I took advice from and he not only understood me but also never judged me. I will never forget the week Barry and I spent together in Florida, just him and I. Barry welcomed my daughter Faith and fiancé Melissa into his circle with arms wide open.
I was so happy when I first heard that Barry was moving to Sackville. Barry asked me for one favour and I was more than happy to oblige. I was able to get my family Doctor Adrian Kelly to take Barry on as a patient because of my relationship with Dr. Kelly.
My Father and Barry were inseparable. They always had a brotherly bond and never so much as had a disagreement as long as I knew him. Barry spent every evening with my Father after the loss of my Mother Lynne Kerr.
My deepest condolences to Tony, Mike and Rachel. Their Father was a great man that I already miss dearly.
Love you Uncle B -RK

Barry quickly folded into our neighbourhood in 2020. We could set the time by his dedication to his daily walks – often with a coffee in hand. We’d catch up to him to chat: local and world news, damage from Fiona and other storms, progress on his fabulous house and yard projects, and so on. We will miss his chuckle, keen observation, and good will. Rosemary & Richard

Barry and I were friends for over 70 years and were always in close contact. We embraced him in our crazy family w
hich led him to many wild and wonderful times. We went to public school together and when he decided to become a teacher we went to university together.
We played hockey together and a lot of golf which he excelled at.
He was even silly enough to become part of our related family and raised 3 wonderful children.
He was intelligent, kind, generous and great friend.
He will be dearly missed.

I met Barry when he moved to Sackville in 2020, through Gerry & Lynne Kerr. I had heard of Barry many times so it was nice to finally put a face to the name. I ended up seeing that face every 3 weeks for the last 3 years, as he would come see me for regular foot care. In that time, he would regale me with many stories! I told him he should write a book on many occasions.
My condolences to Tony, Mike & Rachel & to all that loved him. Barry was a wonderful man & he will be sorely missed xo.

It’s never easy losing someone – even more so when it’s a lifelong friend. Barry and I met in Grade 10 at York Memorial High School. On the first week of classes, it turned out that he was in all of my classes – including orchestra. We became great friends and over years we have remained so. I’ll save the many stories of the things we got up to – including the foolish ones - for the Celebration of Life but suffice it to say, we always had each other’s back in good times and bad.
When we graduated high school, we both took entry level positions in Canada Packers' finance division. One day Barry let me know that he had decided to go back to school to become a teacher and he encouraged me to join him. That decision changed his life and mine, as we both have spent our careers in education. Barry was an excellent educator and many years later, we had the opportunity to work together supporting First Nation education in Ontario.
Barry enjoyed the complete love and respect of my children, Shannon, Richard & Shane who always referred to him as Uncle Barry. I was Uncle Gerry to Tony, Mike and Rachel. For many years I lived in other parts of Ontario and didn’t see Barry that often – although we always stayed in touch. When my career took me back to Southern Ontario, we bought a cottage together and shared many memories on Fairlane Lake.
I am grateful for the last several years when he made the decision to join me in Sackville, New Brunswick. It was a great decision for both of us and we were inseparable once again. Now that he has passed, there is a part of me that passed with him.

In Memory of Barry Denman,
You were the oldest of the cousins and I still remember how I looked up to you with such awe! Always charismatic and “larger than life” – at least in my eyes.
As an adult, I saw your devotion to family and, after your Father passed, your unwavering dedication to your Mum. Whether it was your Mum, Aunt Nesta or Aunt Vic you would always be there to help whenever needed.
Although we didn’t see each other often over the years, whenever there was occasion for us to get together, it was so comfortable to spend time together and share a few laughs. I’m so glad we were able to communicate with each other on social media this past year and share some of the things that you were dealing with.
You fought long and valiantly for which I am still in awe! Love you. Rest well my cousin.

It is with much sadness I learned of Barry's passing. He was my father's best friend and was always so kind to myself, my husband and our son. I have many fond memories of Barry in Lakeland Florida especially on the golf course and at dinners. Barry never declined a trip to Steak & Shake for his favorite milkshake. He graciously showed my family and I the beautiful sights of Picton Onario and Prince Edward County, followed by a lunch overlooking the golf course where it seemed like everybody knew him. Barry always delivered my Leafs' tickets to me with a big smile before the start of each season. I'll never forget the lunch date I had with Barry & Gerry when I was 21 where they presented me my own set of keys to the Farlain Lake cottage. It meant a lot to me....and it meant a lot of parties!. It was always so heartwarming to see the bond between Barry & Gerry every time we were all together. We were very happy that he attended our wedding and that he moved to Sackville. Barry will be sadly missed and fondly remembered.

We are so sorry to hear of Barry’s passing. As cousins growing up together, we spent many hours having fun. We were fortunate to have a visit with Barry and cousins on the Beal side of the family when we met for brunch in Stratford in 2015. When Mom lived at St. Hilda’s, Barry would phone for a grocery list and deliver items when he came to Toronto. For that we were grateful as was Mom. He always made time to check on her. Lovingly remembered by Tom Swabey and his wife Carol.
