Obituary of Susan Carol (Steadman) Read

On Friday Sept. 8, 2023 after a lengthy illness, Susan Carol Read died at Belleville General Hospital surrounded by her family. She was 82.

Born in Sackville, New Brunswick, she was predeceased by her parents, Albion Gray Steadman and Katie Belle Anderson. Loving wife to Alan, also born in Sackville, for 60 years. Loved mother of Jennifer (Michael) Bell of Belleville and David Read and Jennifer Williams of Guelph.

Very proud Nana to Luke, Cassidy and Colton. Fondly remembered by Jordan and Zachary Bell and their families of Kingston.

Predeceased by her siblings, Phyllis, Robert, Rupert and Shirley.

Susan is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Carol (Curtis) Wood and Mary Jane (Fred) Estabrooks of Sackville, her brother-in-law, George (Leslie) Read of Fredericton and her brother-in-law, Irvine (Vivian) Read of Oshawa, ON. Fondly remembered by her many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A retired transportation specialist with CFB Trenton, Susan was a devoted cat lover and enjoyed gardening, reading, baking, and spending time with her family. Her backyard flowers brought her special joy, as did her grandchildren.

Cremation has taken place with a private family service at the Burke Funeral Home in Belleville. A celebration of Susan’s life will be planned for a later time. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Susan’s memory to the Humane Society Hastings and Prince Edward.
