Obituary of Victor Paul Joseph Landry
It is with great sadness that the family of Victor Paul Joseph Landry must announce his passing on Monday, September 4th, 2023, at the age of 71. Victor passed away at the Drew Nursing Home in Sackville, New Brunswick with his devoted wife, Sandie, at his side.
Born in Sackville, NB on January 23rd, 1952, he was the son of the late Edna (Melanson) and J. Gerard (Jerry) Landry.
As a youngster, he spent lots of time outside, playing with the Melanson brothers who lived just up the road from his family home in Middle Sackville, NB. Upon graduating from high school in 1970, Victor spent a brief period with the Canadian Armed Forces before returning to work on a farm in Sackville, NB. He later joined the team at the General Electric Company before ultimately realizing he wanted to be his own boss. He operated Vic’s Esso in Middle Sackville for several years before switching to garbage collection. He opened and ran Vic’s Garbage Collection for approximately 20 years before becoming a labourer with NB Power. He retired from NB Power in 2014, and then puttered around on his tractor on his large property on the Upper Aboujagane Road for significant periods of time on sunny days. Victor loved to keep busy by spending time outdoors but, he also truly enjoyed it when a friend or family member would stop in for a visit. He always had a lawn chair, a cold beer, and a lot of conversation to offer a guest who dropped in for a chat. Victor was proud of his accomplishments and his family. He loved animals, watching dramatic tv shows, fixing things around the house, and fishing when he had the chance. He was determined, intelligent and industrious, always able to demonstrate that his smaller stature never prevented him from completing a tough physical task. He also loved to laugh, and he was friendly with everyone he met. He will be missed by all those who knew him.
Victor will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Sandra (Sandie). The couple, who were married when they were just 21 and 18 years of age, would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this October. He will also be missed by his son, Paul Landry; his daughter, Michelle Landry-Reyes (Manuel); his three grandchildren, Ariyana Reyes, Javier Reyes, and Miguel Reyes; his siblings Edgar (Rosie) Landry, Janice Landry, Dennis (Sheila) Landry, and Jacques Landry; several nieces and nephews; his closest friends, as well as by his sweet little shih tzu, Maggie May.
Besides his parents, Victor was pre-deceased by his brother, Gerard (Kathy) Landry.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Erin Campbell and staff of Campbell’s Funeral Home, 89 Bridge Street, Sackville N.B. (506) 364-8188. In keeping with Victor’s wishes, cremation will take place and there will be no visiting hours or funeral service. Online condolences and sharing of memories may be forwarded to the family through our website www.campbellsfuneralhome.com or by visiting the funeral home Facebook page.
The family would like to offer sincerest thanks to the numerous compassionate and supportive staff of the Drew Nursing Home who cared for Victor over this past year.
If so desired, donations can be made in memory of Victor to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada or to the charity of your choice.
His Journey’s Just Begun
Don’t think of him as gone away
his journey’s just begun,
life holds so many facets
this earth is only one.
Just think of him as resting
from the sorrows and the tears
in a place of warmth and comfort
where there are no days and years.
Think how he must be wishing
that we could know today
how nothing but our sadness
can really pass away.
And think of him as living
in the hearts of those he touched…
for nothing loved is ever lost
and he was loved so much.
