Obituary of Joan Hilda Beal-Hicks

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joan Hilda Beal-Hicks, age 85, of Miramichi, NB and formerly of Sackville NB.

Joan passed away on July 25, 2023 at the Bridgeview Hall nursing facility where she had been residing for a short time.

Joan was born in Sackville NB on February 13, 1938.  She was the daughter of the late Norman and Alma Cole.

Joan started her working career at Mount Allison University in the history department and later with the help of Richard (Dick) Hall, she opened her own accounting business called Busy Bee Bookkeeping.  Later in life she met Austin, and together they enjoyed travelling the world.

Joan will be dearly missed by her son, Todd (Tracy) Beal; her daughter, Tracy (Janez) Beal; her step-daughter, Wanda (Brian) Harbert; her step-son, Michael Hicks; her brother, Sidney (Ruth) Cole; her sister-in-law, Drenna (Norman) Cole; her grandsons, Nicholas Beal, Andrew Beal and Tanner (Emily) Beal; her step- grandchildren, Daniel, Jerrica, Alyssa, and Peter, as well as by several nieces and nephews.

Joan was predeceased by her husbands, Austin Hicks and Ormand Beal; her special friend, Richard (Dick) Hall; her sister, Madelyn (Jackie) Smith; her brother, Norman (Bub) Cole; her grandson, Geoffrey Beal, as well as by her brothers-in-law, Stephen Beal and Roland Beal.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Erin Campbell and staff of Campbell’s Funeral Home, 89 Bridge Street, Sackville NB.  Cremation has taken place and the burial will take place later this year.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Midgic Baptist Church, Canadian Cancer Society, Sackville Memorial Hospital or the charity of one’s choice.
