Obituary of Leonie Elda (Landry) Etter
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Leonie Elda Etter, 92 at the Sackville Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, July 11, 2023. Leonie passed away peacefully with family by her side following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Shediac, New Brunswick, she was the daughter of the late Florida (Richard) and William Landry.
Leonie spent the majority of her life in Point de Bute NB where she worked hard day in and day out on the farm. She loved gardening and was the first to know when the wild berries were in season. Leonie held a special place in her heart for her grandchildren but always welcomed the neighbourhood kids for cookies and ice cream. Her door was always open for a cup of tea and a good chat. Leonie was a very active person, and it was a common sight to see her at the woodpile, splitting wood with axe in hand into her 80s.
Leonie will be greatly missed by her sisters, Elizabeth (Aubrey) Jones and Dora (late Roger) Lomax; her grandchildren, Amy Etter (Scott) and Josh Etter (Chrissy); her daughter-in-law, Karen Etter (Wade); her special niece, Stephanie (Dean) Blair; her five great-grandchildren, as well as by many nieces and nephews.
Leonie was predeceased by her late husband, Amos Etter in 1983, as well as by her son, Douglas Etter in 2003. She was also predeceased by her sisters, Margaret, Bella, Theresa and Beatrice, as well as by her brothers, Edmond, Euclide, Albert.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Erin Campbell and staff of Campbell’s Funeral Home in Sackville NB. A graveside service will be held at the Point de Bute Cemetery on Saturday, July 22 at 10:30 am with Father Charles Broderick officiating. All are welcome to attend.
In lieu of donations, maybe we can all live a little more like Leonie and always be kind to others.
On-line condolences and sharing of memories may be forwarded to the family through our website www.campbellsfuneralhome.com or by visiting the funeral home Facebook page.
