Obituary of Betty Eileen Hutchinson

Betty Eileen Hutchinson passed away at the Drew Nursing Home on July 3, 2023 at the age of 89.  Born in Sackville on April 29, 1934 she was the daughter of Raymond and Alice (Hicks) Bembridge.

In her younger years, Betty was an athlete, playing basketball, curling and speed skating.  In later years, she added softball to her repertoire. She loved watching the Toronto Blue Jays and rarely missed a game.

She was an avid knitter, making hundreds of pairs of mittens and socks for family, friends and children in need. She was also an accomplished seamstress, creating everything from pyjamas to ball gowns for her family and friends.

Betty loved her church and helped out with innumerable events held there. Betty and her husband Charles decorated the church for Christmas, Easter and other special days with their flower arrangements. They were always willing to help with suppers or construction projects and were heavily involved with the annual Gospel Music Festival.

She cherished the friends she made at Rusagonis Baptist Church and those she made in her neighbourhood. She knew almost everyone in her area and was happy to chat with them as she canvassed for the Heart & Stroke Foundation. Those friends kept an eye on her in her later years.

Betty was predeceased by her parents, Raymond (in 1977) and Alice (in 2018) Bembridge, as well as by her husband, Charles Hutchinson in 2002. She is survived by her daughter, Gwendolyn (Garth) Zwicker of Sackville; her son, Bruce Hutchinson of Newmarket ON; her brother, Donald (Deanna) Bembridge of Amherst NS and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, Raeghann Lister, Jordan Lister (Brandy) and Niall Lister (Jade); her great-grandchildren, Dylan Mitton, Samuel Mitton, Rein Idnurm-Lister, Jakob Wilson and Ravyn Lister; and her great-great-grandson, Hudson Lister.  Her grandchildren were her treasures and she and Charles would spend most of their summers touring with Rae, Jordan and Niall.

Funeral arrangements are in the care of Erin Campbell and staff of Campbell’s Funeral Home, 89 Bridge St. Sackville NB. There will be a graveside service at the Midgic Cemetery on Saturday, July 8, 2023 at 1:00. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, Rusagonis Baptist Church or the Drew Foundation.

We are so grateful for the care Mom received at the Drew and would like to thank all the nurses and staff who made her last year comfortable. Mom particularly depended on Pam Bulmer and Cathy Sears and we are so appreciative of the time they gave her.
