Mary Kerr

Obituary of Mary Lynne Kerr

It is with great sadness that I honor the passing of my dear wife Mary Lynne Kerr. We were together for over fifty years through good times and hard times. We will miss her forever. She fought health issues for many years with fortitude and grace but succumbed to a massive stroke on May 20, 2021. She supported my career unselfishly including moving from the cozy confines of Southern Ontario to a remote First Nation with a one year old and another on the way. She chose to become involved in the social life there, ran a cooking class for women in the community and learned to love pickerel. My career took us to several towns and cities, including Sioux Lookout, Fort Frances, Oakville and finally to our home of the last thirty years, Sackville, New Brunswick. Here she made many friends. She loved her art classes and became quite an accomplished artist but she never saw herself that way. I am blessed to have so many of her paintings to remind me of her every day. She had a wicked sense of humour and loved to laugh – especially with her dear friend Stephanie, whom she considered as a daughter. She is survived by her two sons, Richard and Shane; sisters, Lee, Laurie, Lonnie and Lindsay, and my daughter Shannon. She had decided that she wanted to be buried in Toronto in the same cemetery as her late brother Jimmy and we will honor that request when the pandemic so allows. A celebration of life will be held sometime this summer. Thanks to the many who have contacted us to express their sympathy – it is appreciated. Special thanks also to the palliative care unit at Moncton Hospital and to Dr. Stephen Kenney who provided excellent health care to her for over twenty five years. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada would be appreciated.
