My heartfelt sympathy Pat, Kathy, Ruth and Allan on the passing of your brother Jack. He was so sweet and caring to phone me once in awhile and said the last time he saw me I was just a kid.
Jack's phone calls were always to ask how my Mom was doing but after we discussed Mom, the two of us had nice conversations about Labrador dogs and bluegrass music, which we both liked. He told me he could not find a golden lab in N.B and he just about talked me into sending him one from here, Vancouver Island.
Jack always talked to me as if he had a real zest for life and I'm sure he did. I know my Mother loved him very much and she told me she was in the house where and when he was born. I can remember Jack's voice over the phone still and I know all of you will be having many happy memories of Jack.
Your cousin, Charlotte

Dear Allen, Patsy, Ruth and Kathy,
I learned yesterday via e-mail from Krista Beal, on behalf of Allan, that Jack had recently passed. For those who know me and my wife Vicky, we are aware that Jack's passage through life was a challenge. By the tone and contents of the condolences submitted by both friends and family members contained within this web-site, Jack was well loved by many and was considered a good friend by others. I sincerely appreciate the effort by those who took the time to record your thoughts – Jack would appreciate your love and friendship.
For myself, as Jack's cousin, I knew him earlier in life when I was just seven to ten years old. From Charlottetown, I infrequently visited with Allan and his family in Sackville. Jack was living with his Mom and I noted the interactions between them. From my early understanding of life at that time, I considered my Aunt Audry as a strong and exceptional person who had the stamina to deal with and successfully manage her special relationship with Jack. In similar circumstances, not many could do as well as she.
To Allan, Patsy, Ruth and Kathy, please accept our most sincere expression of condolence for the loss of Jack. Even now he is uniting many of us from across the distances so that we may remember him within a community of loved ones and friends. May God bless you all and guide you through this difficult time.
David Mitchell Balser and Victoria – Kelowna B.C.
My Son Steven Balser, wife Katherine and their daughter Isabella (4) Penticton B.C.

I often picked Jack up hitching a ride to Amherst... Most times he would be headed to radio shack to pick up a new needle for his record player or something like that. I remember one trip as I drove him to Amherst I asked him how he was doing ? His response was "good and most of his days are good, that's how it is when you have a handy cap". Classic

One of the great things about growing up in a small town is the people you meet along the way.
Like many others, I have fond memories of crossing on Jackie’s corner, with a stop to the Penny Wise on the way.
Thank you for keeping us safe, and for a chat and a smile.
Condolences to friends and family.

Charlotte and l are sincerely sorry to hear of the passing of our cousin Jack. I had a number of phone calls with Jackie and he always had a soft spot in his heart for his Aunt Neta and also Uncle George. My husband Jack and l made sure to visit him when on our trip east as my mother would have been pleased we said hello. I also visited him when he was living in Moncton and left him some photos of our family. Jack is now at peace with other loved ones gone and can see and feel the glory of God. We love you Jackie and you will be remembered until we meet again in a better place with all those we loved and miss.
Cousin. Audrey

I love you Jackie. No matter how hard life was on all of us after Dad died. Now you can ask God why you weren't born like a " normal" person. What ever that is. As not many people in this day and age are normal.
Love you always, your sister Kathy.

I remember Jackie when I was a young girl. He was a cross walk guard by penny-wyse and as well downtown by the park. He took his job seriously- making sure we were always safely escorted across the street before he would tell us a joke ( and make us laugh) , give us a quarter or give us a ticket for a ride at the fair.
I have often thought of him over the years- he was a part of my childhood I still reflect upon- and happily so.
The picture of him with his dog brings tears to my eyes- such a caring soul- our world could use more people like Jackie.
Allan- had I known you were his brother, I would have asked you about him when you wired our cottage.
Sincere Condolences

As a young boy I remember Jack hitchhiking to Amherst and Dad would stop to pick him up. I believe he was selling Fuller Brush supplies. Dad would say he works hard and deserves a lift. Jack would walk for miles and often came to our door selling products even though we were about 3 miles from his end of town. He seemed to never look for a handout and wanted to earn what was his. RIP.

I'm sorry for your loss. Jack was a real character and a fixture in Sackville. He will be missed.
Some of my favourite elementary school memories involve Jack and his generosity. Every payday, he would have a roll of quarters at the ready to give 25 cents to each child he helped to cross the street. (Back then a quarter would get you a mini-sip and a bag of chips at the Penny-Wise.)
Jack also saved me from bullies from time to time, for which I will forever be grateful. I always knew that if I could make it his corner that he would have my back.
RIP Jack.
