Obituary of Mary Fisher (Grant) Wells
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Mary Wells at her home in Anderson Settlement, on Thursday, December 21, 2017 at the age of 100 years.
Born in Little Shemogue, N.B. (Cadman’s Corner), on November 2, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Emiellianne Marie (Downing) and Robert Alcorn Grant.
At the age of five Mary moved to Port Elgin to attend school. Mary loved God, teaching, serving her community and her family. She attended St. James Presbyterian and Anderson Settlement United Church where she served as the treasurer. In 1935 she graduated from the Provincial Normal School, later attending U of M and Mount Allison universities. Mary was a teacher and principal for 32 years in the Tantramar area. Mary was a lifelong member of the Women’s Institute, the highlight being representing NB at the National Conference in Saskatoon. She will be greatly missed by her family and by all who knew her.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Roland (Nettie), Shirley (Ian Smart), James and Elizabeth; nine grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; her sister, Louise (Mrs. Walter Wilson), as well as by many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband and life-long love Douglas Wells; her daughter-in-law Corinne, as well as by her siblings Clarence, Thomas, Andrew, Philip, Abram, Gaston and Agnes Wiswell.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Campbell’s Funeral Home, 89 Bridge Street, Sackville, N.B. (506) 364-8188. A graveside service will take place in the spring at the Sackville Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mary may be made to the Anderson Settlement United Church or to the charity of one’s choice.
