Obituary of Mary June Day
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Day at the Moncton Hospital on Tuesday, July 11, 2017. Mary passed away surrounded by her family at the age of 96 years.
Born on June 24, 1921 in Sackville, N.B., she was the daughter of the late Bertha Jean (Richardson) and Charles Frederick Ison.
Mary graduated from Sackville High School with Grade eleven and went on to work in Sackville, Moncton and joined the Air Force in 1943. She earned BSc and B.Ed degrees at Mount Allison University and taught school in Ontario, NS and NB. Mary was once President of the Sackville Art Association, attended St. Ann’s Anglican Church and served in offices of the Eastern Star with the Fort Monkton Chapter and Port Elgin. She loved gardening, playing bridge, working at genealogy, her family, reading detective novels, travelling, making quilts, investing, painting in oils, dancing, playing the piano and working on her stamp collection. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy and she had a close bond with her cats, especially Frodo, her buddy.
Mary will be lovingly remembered by her son, John Charles Spencley and his wife, Christina; her sister, Jean Saunders Cole; her three grandchildren; her several great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was pre-deceased by her husband, Walter Spencley; her sons, Alan and James Spencley; her husband, Al Day of Saint John, N.B.; her brother, Russell Ison, as well as by her sisters-in-law, Dorcas Lund and Sylvia King.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Campbell’s Funeral Home, 89 Bridge Street, Sackville, N.B. (506) 364-8188. A graveside service will take place on Monday, July 17, 2017 at 11 am at the Westcock Cemetery with Archdeacon Reginald Stockall officiating.
