My heart felt wishes go out to you all. I know Doug will be sorely missed by the whole family.
My last contact with Doug was discussing gold and the Australian Open via emails, quite a few years ago.
I worked with Doug at AirNova and enjoyed flying with him immensely. One of my favorite 146 captains to fly with. Always so relaxed, so much to talk about and ending the day always feeling good about life.
Even though it's been a long time, I truly believed I would make it out to Sackville one day to try his home brew and catch up after all the years apart. Maybe even get my tennis game in shape so I could get a single point on him in a match (highly unlikely).
Rest in peace my old friend. You left a tremendous mark in my life and will never be forgotten.

Especially for those he loved and left behind...his was a life lost way too early.
But Doug's was a lifetime packed full of fascinating experiences, hard work, and frequent adventures.... Doug didn't just exist, he was passionate about all that he took on. His life was filled with pride of family, a love of sports and adventure, hard work, entrepreneurship, a constant advancement for the betterment of self for his family....and along the way, though a private person, he still managed to share many of his worldliness experiences with his good friends and family. An incredible athlete and cook.....also a harder worker and a better pilot could not have been found anywhere.
We will miss our generous friend greatly, and while we know Doug's OK now, we remain so sad and broken-hearted for his families.
Words and the biggest, longest hugs cannot express or relieve this inconsolable sadness we feel now for you Janet, Kelli, Jenny, Mike, and all of the other Robinson family members and friends. We are so sorry for your loss - OUR loss.
We know you Robinsons are all incredibly strong, but we are thinking of you, always.
And if any of us can help, please do allow us to support you in any way possible.
We must get through this - together - as friends and family.
Hugs and love, Sue and Timmy

I am so sorry to hear of Doug's passing. I'm at a loss for words on how to share my condolences. I always had fun working with Doug on the Bae146. He was an amazing pilot and I'd like to say a person I highly enjoyed spending time with, my most fondest memory was when he was determined to learn how to snowboard on one of our pairings in cornerbrook nfld. I couldn't get over his determination on wanting to learn something new and by the end of the day he had got it which is no easy task coming from someone that took awhile to catch onto it myself! We also shared the same passion for golf, we only got out once together in Moncton but Doug would always call me when he was heading to pei to see if I was there and if we could get a game in. So sorry I could not attend the funeral.
Sincerely,
Capt. Graham Price

To the Robinson family,
My deepest condolences to the entire family. I met Doug at "the trailer" in 1988 when I was 21 years old though Farooq....another of Doug's long time friends. He open the door to me and little did I know at the time, I was meeting an exceptional friend and and future colleague. It wasn't til 2003 that I got the the privilege to fly with Doug on the Bae146. He stayed at my place many times after that and we had some great chats (mostly about boats and boating trips) and many laughs. I will miss that and the wisdom I gained from it.
I heard this song on the radio today and made me think of Doug which I'm sure will happen frequently in the future.

Dougie,
I'll see ya on the other side brother,,,,save me a spot at the marina. We'll find a cove and moring and have a "raft up". We can talk about flying for 5 mins and then talk about boats for 5 hours!
Until then I hope the weather is fair and there's a warm wind blowing...

Dear Janet and Family,
Words cannot express my deepest sympathy to you and your family. After hearing the sudden lost of such a kind and thoughtful human being and colleague, I'm almost at a lost for words to convey my thoughts.
It is with a heavy heart that I share with you a story of just how special he truly was. I've know Doug since he joined Airnova in 1987. We often flew together and we love to talk about our favorite hockey teams, the Bruins for Doug and the Blackhawks for me.
During one of our many conversations, Doug shared with me the time he personally met Bobby Hull, the "Golden Jet" as he called him. Doug went on to tell me that Bobby Hull promised he would have something sent in the mail for him. Pleasantly surprised, Doug did receive a package in the mail just as promised. this package contained a personally autograph picture as well as some other memorabilia. I remember well being so caught up in his story. Doug knowing that Bobby Hull was my boyhood idol growing up and my all time favorite player, already knew in his heart what he was going to do next.
It wasn't too long after that conversation that I received in the mail a large brown envelope containing all the things that the "Golden Jet" had given to Doug. Doug even took the time to write a personal note to me. I was overwhelm with his thoughtfulness and generosity. I will never forget him.
Godspeed and Happy Contrails my friend.

On an oft chance, I met Doug Robinson in the fall of 1984. While travelling through Nova Scotia I introduced myself to Doug in the Eastern Flying Services hangar.
I was looking for a job.
At the time, I was working for a float operation in Sudbury. Upon meeting Doug, we immediately had a common bond whereas we both hailed from Northern Ontario.
A couple of months later, Doug hired me onto my first twin engine job on a Navajo at Eastern Flying Services.
Doug brought me to Eastern Canada, where I have made my home for almost 30 years.
Flying positions have changed throughout those 30 years, but often I would run into Doug.
He had the "Hunt Club" in Lantz, not far from my home and I would stop by for a beer when out on my bike or out for a walk.
There was always a friendly face and hearty handshake awaiting.
While we both flew out of Toronto, occasionally our paths would cross. Most times Doug was usually in a hurry....a quick exchange would occur and once again we would be caught up!
There are many pilots who worked under the tutelage of Captain Doug Robinson. He offered a position to many people who were just starting out in the industry and foothold to which we have now made permanent careers.
I will miss seeing Doug.
My condolences to his Family and all his Friends.

I had the great pleasure to fly with Doug when he was piloting for Air Canada , while living in St. John's , Nfld where I was the head of CSIS. We had some great talks and I sat with him in the cockpit many times. It was there that I found out that you worked with Jack Drover a great friend of my brother-in-law, from Corner Brook. We had one memorable flight into St. John's in the worst storm I have ever seen, but being the professional that he was he landed us all safely. I haven't seen him in a number of years but every time I fly I think of him and that landing.

Dear Robinson family,
Please accept my deepest condolences on Dougs passing. For many of us our time at Air Nova on the 146 was a baptism of sorts, first real airline, first jet. It was from men like Doug with his smooth charm and skill that I personally learned the craft of being an Airline Captain and as I moved on with my career I always remembered the good Captains and tried to forget the rest. Doug is someone I will always remember. I was so excited to bump into him at YVR earlier this year !!
I have many fond memories of flying with Doug one that comes to mind is the time both front windshields cracked at 31000 feet on our way from Halifax to Montreal. He very calmly turned the aircraft around and literally flew the airplane sideways to a smooth touchdown back in Halifax.
Go in peace sir, I wish you blue skies and smooth landings.

It is with great sadness that I write these words. I had the pleasure of working with Doug for the past 24 years. I always enjoyed working with Doug and we shared many laughs along the way. I ran into him often on our quest for the standby seat commuting from Moncton to T.O....more laughs (and aggravations) to be had. I always told Doug that he had a smile like a Cheshire cat...sneaky. He loved the analogy. I will treasure the last day I say him in the crew room before his last pairing before retirement. He was in great spirits giving and accepting well wishes. We had some pictures taken and, what was to be, a final hug. He will be missed by many. Hold the memories of your husband and father close to your heart. I wish Doug the safest of journeys on his final flight. Donna (McCawley) Gilbert.

The Robinson Family<
I have known Doug for over 30 years and first met him during his employment at Eastern Flying Services. Doug was a private man who always kept the best interests of his family paramount over any other considerations.
I was happy to see that Doug had finally decided to retire and crushed when I heard the news that his life had been cut short. He was always a gentleman...polite and respectful of everyone ,no matter their station. I will miss him.
Please accept my deepest condolences from my family to yours.

Dear Mrs. Robinson and family,
I had the privilege to work with Doug for 17 years at Air Nova/ Jazz. He was always respectful of his co workers, passengers and whenever he spoke of all his family. He was soft spoken, sincere and had a sweet twinkle in his eye every time I saw him.
Just last week we all heard that Doug was completing his last flight before retirement . I hadn't seen him in many years since I left the company in 2004, but it was important to me to pass on my best wishes in his retirement. I wished him good luck and happiness in his new life. The most recent news of his tragic passing has shocked all of his airline friends.
I offer my deepest condolences to you all. Please know he was well respected, well loved and his presence was truly enjoyed for a very long time. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

It is with sadness that I just learned of Doug's passing.
I fondly remember Doug being my instructor on a Piper Cherokee at MFC. I had to go check my log book for the date and indeed, September 30, 1979 "Robinson" instructor.
His gentleness and style in instilling knowledge to me will be forever etched in my mind and spirit.
Sometimes we meet people , briefly as it may be, that makes a difference in our lives and Doug, most likely unknowingly, had a very uplifting and positive effects on me and I'm sure this extends to other colleague and friends.
My sincere condolences to the family!

Maxine and I are so very sad and shocked to learn of Doug's passing.
Doug and I were colleagues since 1987 in the early days of Air Nova. It was always a pleasure to work with Doug and it was especially a pleasure to chat with him about his love of family, boating, fishing and, of course, flying.
Doug was so helpful to me on more than one occasion. For a time Doug had a trailer in Lantz that he used for overnights. Living close by, it was a real treat for me to visit with him and his friends over pizza and beer. Always had a great laugh together.
He was definitely one of the good guys and will be greatly missed!

Janet and Family - I was so saddened to hear of Doug's passing. He was very much a part of my MTA memories. In recent years, I always considered it a moment of good fortune when I encountered Doug on a flight out of Moncton. It was a chance to catch up on news and hear how proud he was of his family. I hope you find comfort in each other and many happy memories in the days and weeks to come.
