Obituary of Dorothy Jean McKay

Mom left us to be with Dad Tuesday night, passing away quietly in her home in Sackville at the age of 85. Mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, proofreader, reporter, dog-lover, crossword fiend, handywoman, camper, card shark and gamer, wise friend, counselor and mentor. Dorothy Jean McKay, daughter of Arthur and Harriet (Duncan) Stone, Dot grew up in Moncton where she attended Moncton High School and worked at the Times and Transcript as a proofreader. It was there that she met her husband, Dave McKay, whom she married in 1947. The family left Riverview in 1965, moving to Sackville. Though Dot was primarily a full-time homemaker, she was well known for her reports on local radio, as well as for the nickname (“the OB-BW”) that her husband bestowed on her in his weekly column in the Sackville Tribune Post. Dot is lovingly remembered and sadly missed by children Heather McKay Richard and Dave McKay of Sackville, and Bruce McKay of Saskatoon; six grandchildren (Ben, Mike, Andy, Ange, David and Emily), and two great-grandchildren (Hillary and Carmen), nephew Andy (Linda) of Wolfville, and son-in-law Lea Dixon of North Vancouver. She was predeceased by her husband, and by her daughter, Linda Dixon. In keeping with Dot’s wishes cremation has taken place and there will be no visiting hours or funeral service at this time. Friends and neighbors are invited to join the family for a time of remembrance at 16 Pleasant St. on Dec 7th at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the charity of your choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Campbell’s Funeral Home, 89 Bridge Street, Sackville, New Brunswick.
