Obituary of Ella Christina (Searle) MacDonald

It is with great sadness that we must announce the passing of Ella Christina (Searle) MacDonald on April 9th, 2024 at the Moncton Hospital. Ella passed away peacefully at the age of 82 after a brief illness with her family by her side.

Born on December 11th, 1941 in, Miramichi, NB, she was the daughter of the late Clarence Searle and Clara (Young).

Ella followed her husband Hazen to different teaching locations, finally moving to Sackville, NB in 1971 when Tantramar Regional High School opened. She worked in the kitchen at the Drew Nursing Home and in the bakery of Johnstone’s Save Easy (Independent) after which she became a stay-at-home mom raising her four children. She loved playing cards, bowling in both women's mixed leagues, loved doing crafts, knitting and crocheting most of which were given to family and friends, but most of all she loved to be around her family, friends and her four-legged friend, Gunner. Ella was admitted to the Drew Nursing Home about 8 months ago because of mobility issues and she enjoyed her stay there. She met a lot of old friends there and formed a Domino's Group which she enjoyed very much.

Ella will be lovingly remembered by her children, Royce (Kelly) MacDonald of Kinkora, PEI, Sharon (Carole) MacDonald of Ottawa, Ontario and Kevin MacDonald of Sackville, NB; her brother, Bruce Searle of Miramichi, NB; her grandchildren, Christina MacDonald (Mel), Ally Wescott (Shawn), Arlo (Peter), Matthew (Marina); her great-grandchildren, Kylie, Joey, Joshua, Hazen, Justice, and Analie; her great-great granddaughter, Khaliah; her several nieces and nephews, as well as by her good friends and her special friend, Kay Wells.

Besides her parents she was pre-deceased by her husband, Hazen; her daughter, Sandra; her daughter-in-law, Katherine; her sister, Edythe, as well as by her brother, Robert.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Drew Nursing Home for the caring and compassionate support shown to Ella during her stay there, as well as a sincere thank you to the doctors and staff of the Moncton Hospital for making her last days the best they could be.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Erin Campbell and staff of Campbell’s Funeral Home, 89 Bridge Street, Sackville N.B. (506) 364-8188.
