Barry Denman

Obituary of Barry Edward Denman

It is with great sadness that we honor the passing of our dear father, Barry Edward Denman. We will miss him forever. He supported us unconditionally in good times and bad. He fought health issues over the last two years with fortitude and grace but succumbed to cancer on October 28, 2023 at the Sackville Memorial Hospital.

He spent his life as an educator both in the Ontario public school system and with First Nation education. He was a talented singer both in the prestigious St. Andrew’s boys choir and later as lead singer in several bands. A few years ago, he moved to Sackville, New Brunswick where he and his good friend Gerry Kerr solved many of the world’s problems over a glass of wine in the gazebo. He was welcomed and made good friends with his neighbors on Campbell’s Hill.

He is survived by his two sons, Tony and Michael, his daughter, Rachel and his grandson, Milo. He will be missed by former spouses, Carol McDonald and Julie Denman, his cousin, Ron, and by his lifelong friend, Barry Oliver. He will be buried in his hometown at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Toronto. A celebration of life will be held at a future date.

Thanks to the many who have contacted us to express their sympathy – it is appreciated. Special thanks also to the palliative care unit at the Sackville Community Hospital and to Dr. Kelly, Dr. Wall and to Nurses Megan, Leanne, Steve & Sandy who provided excellent palliative care for him.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Erin Campbell and staff of Campbell’s Funeral Home, 89 Bridge Street, Sackville, N.B. (364-8188). He will be buried in his hometown at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Toronto.  A celebration of life will be held at a future date.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his name to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the Sackville Memorial Hospital Auxiliary would be appreciated.
