Perley passed away with his loving daughters by his side. Born December 14, 1927 in Wesleyville, NL to Samuel and Lucy Jane (Mullet) Wicks, he was 88 years of age. He is survived by two daughters, Katrina O’Brien (Rodrigue LeBlanc) of Dorchester, NB and Cindy (Dale) Clark of Calgary, AB, three grandsons, Christopher (Robyn Brewis), Calgary, AB, Nathan and Travis O’Brien, great grandchildren Shyanne Taber, Sackville, NB, Jillyan Osborne, St. Catherines, ON, Weston O’Brien, Memramcook, NB, and Andi O’Brien, Calgary, AB, two great-great grandchildren, two nieces and several nephews. Perley was the last surviving member of his family. Perley was a past member of the Sackville Lion’s Club, the Sackville Rod and Gun Club and he retired from Mount Allison University after 42 years of employment. In his earlier years he was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was known for his great ability of digging clams at his cottage, rarely missed a clamming tide and would often brag about the buckets he brought in and canned. Perley loved the outdoors, was very active in gardening, mowing his lawns, and shovelling his and sometimes his neighbours’ driveways up to the age of 85. Perley was known for his beautiful singing voice and sang with The Harmony Five and later Amazing Grace-you would always catch him singing. He believed in being active and would walk downtown three to four times a day just for the exercise. In his younger years, he played football, hockey, curled and golfed. Perley loved to skate and would go as much as he could, even in his later years. Most importantly, Perley loved his two daughters and grandsons. He loved his family and was such a giving and kind man, very humble, and was always there to lend a helping hand and support to all of them. He made sure his family never went without, was an excellent provider and was a very hard worker, believing that hard work never hurt anyone. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Campbell's Funeral Home, 89 Bridge Street, Sackville, (506) 364-8188. As requested by the family, there will be no visitation or public funeral service. Following cremation, a private family funeral service will be held at a later date, with burial to take place in the Sackville Cemetery. Donations may be made in Perley’s memory to the Alzheimer's Society, the Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of one’s choice.
