Obituary of Phyllis Annie Blakney

Sackville, N.B.- Phyllis Annie Blakney passed away at the Drew Nursing Home on Wednesday, October 26, 2011. Phyllis was 84 years of age. Although Phyllis’s family and friends will miss her greatly, knowing that she is in heaven with her Lord makes it easier for those left behind. Born on July 18, 1927 in Sackville, N.B. she was the daughter of the late Everett and Viola (Mitton) Hicks. Phyllis was a faithful member of the Main Street Baptist Church and was involved in many areas including, the Mission Band, Pioneer Girls and as a Teller for many years. She enjoyed crafts, had many hobbies and volunteered with the Special Populations Group when it was held at the Sackville Recreation Department. Phyllis was an employee of Atlantic Wholesalers for 25 years until her retirement. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. Phyllis’s family extends a heartfelt thank-you to Dr. Popma and the staff at the Drew Nursing Home, for making her last few days as comfortable as possible. Phyllis is survived by her sister, Pauline Hicks, who was at her side, along with family and friends, as she went to be with her Lord, whom she loved and served; seven nieces, Connie Stewart, Kathy Hicks, Carolyn MacEachern, Kimberly Wry, Crystal Bazinet, Kandace Cann and Corinne Nelson; two nephews, David Hicks and Kenneth Hicks; several aunts and uncles and her special “adopted daughter”, Aurena Murray of Fredericton, N.B. She was pre-deceased by her husband of 52 years, Paul B. Blakney on October 20, 2003; two brothers, Victor P. Hicks and Kenneth C. Hicks; nephew, Brian Perry Hicks; sister-in-law, Viola D. Hicks and by her brother-in-law, Blaine Hicks. Arrangements have been entrusted to Campbell’s Funeral Home, 89 Bridge Street, Sackville, N.B. (364-8188). The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Saturday, October 29, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held on Sunday, October 30, 2011 at 2 pm at the Main Street Baptist Church, with Pastor Andrew Swanson officiating. Burial will take place in the Sackville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Phyllis may be made to the Sackville Cemetery, Main Street Baptist Church, SPCA or to the charity of ones choice.
