Obituary of Wilfred Fillmore

Baie Verte, N.B.- It is with sadness that the family of Wilfred Weldon (Pete) Fillmore announce his passing on Wednesday, July 11, 2012 at the Veterans Health Unit in Fredericton. He was 90 years of age. Born in Montreal, PQ on November 30, 1921, he was the son of the late Fred and Flora (Mercer) Fillmore. Pete moved to Baie Verte from Montreal in 1922 with his family. He joined the army in late 1943 and was overseas in the armored corps from 1944-1946. Employed by Lounsbury’s,Pete worked in Bathurst until his retirement in 1985 at which time he returned to Baie Verte. During his retirement years he pursued his passions of gardening and fishing. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Herman J. Good Branch #18, Bathurst, N.B. and the South Alberta Regiment (SAR), Edmonton Alberta. He is survived by his daughter, Ann (Dale Murray) of Fredericton, N.B.; six sisters, Martha Hyslop of Hampton, N.B., Joan (Ian) Murray of Baie Verte, N.B., Joy Vardy of St. John’s, N.L., Flora (Douglas) Annand of Baie Verte N.B., Lois Metro of Boston, Mass. and Hedy (Walter) Puii of Freeport, Maine; two brothers George Fillmore of Baie Verte, N.B. and Stanley (Lois) Fillmore of Baie Verte, N.B. and numerous nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by wife, Lillian Joyce (Hills) of Bathurst; sister, Betty Rogers and by his brothers, Baxter and Freddy Fillmore. Arrangements have been entrusted to Campbell’s Funeral Home, 89 Bridge Street, Sackville, N.B. (364-8188) from where visitation will take place on Friday, July 13, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #26, Sackville, will hold a memorial service Friday evening at 7:00 pm. The funeral service will be held at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Sackville, on Saturday, July 14, 2012 at 11 am with Rev. Father Kevin Stockall officiating. Burial will follow in the Baie Verte Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Pete may be made to the Salvation Army, the Alzheimer Society or to the charity of one’s choice. “Through mud and blood to green fields beyond”
