Obituary of Roland Gilbert Salmons
It is with sadness that the family of Roland Gilbert Salmons announce his passing on July 30, 2012 at the Sackville Memorial Hospital. Gil was 81 years of age.
Born June 30, 1931 in Manitoba, he was a son of the late John Clement and Annie (Thomas) Salmons.
Gil was formerly living in Truro, N.S. but was a resident of CedarWood Lodge, Sackville, NB for the past few months. He was a member of Elm Chapter Masonic Lodge, Upper Stewiacke, Myrtle Chapter 21, Eastern Star Lodge, Truro and Atlantic Chapter 65, Tatamagouche. Gil was also a member of the Royal Air Force serving in Iraq and Egypt during the “cold war” as a photographic interpreter. He spent many years in England and returned to Canada in 1972.
He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Rose (Gallant), Truro; daughter, Louise (Bill) Simmonds, son, Timothy Sproston (Clare), nephew, Carl, several grandchildren; former wife, Ivy Sproston, all of England.
He was pre-deceased by his brother, Jim.
In keeping with Gil’s wishes, arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to Campbell’s Funeral Home in Sackville. Visitation will be held in Truro, N.S. on Monday, August 6th from 7-9 pm with an Order of Eastern Star service at 8 pm in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro. Interment at a later date.
