Obituary of Thelma Gillespie
It is with great sadness that the family of Thelma Gillespie announces her passing on Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at the Sackville Memorial Hospital.Born in Moncton, N.B. on October 6, 1933, she was the daughter of the late George and Lena (Vautour) Crossman.
Retired after 24 years of service with the Moncton Hospital, Thelma co-founded the Nova Scotia Grandparents Rights Association with Pauline Glenn and was a Director of the Canadian Grandparents Rights Association.
Thelma will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 61 years, Brian Gillespie; her daughters, Beverly Gillespie, Catherine Gillespie, Leslie Gillespie and Laurel (Bruce) Gibbons; her sons, Jim (Bernice), Kevin, George (Christina); 19 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; her sisters, Linda (George) Hayward, Nancy Jay and Audrey Colpitts and by her brother George.
Besides her parents, she was pre-deceased by her son Danny and by her sisters, Georgina McCavour and Donna McKeen.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Campbell’s Funeral Home, 89 Bridge Street, Sackville, N.B. (364-8188). In keeping with Thelma’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place on Friday, August 10, 2012 from 7-9 PM at Campbell’s Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, August 11, 2012 at 10 am from St. Vincent’s Roman Catholic Church, Sackville, with Father Michael Toner officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Thelma may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada or to the charity of ones choice.
