Obituary of James McCarthy
It is with great sadness that the family of James “Brud” McCarthy, announce his passing at the Sackville Memorial Hospital on Saturday, September 1, 2012. James was 78 years of age.
Born on October 18, 1933 in Sackville, N.B., he was the son of the late James and Connie (Roberts) McCarthy.
James was a sheet metal worker for over 35 years, having worked with Enterprise Foundry in Sackville, AB & G Ventilation and several other businesses in Moncton, N.B. until his retirement. He was an avid music fan and loved to play his guitar. James will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
James will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 60 years, Shirley (Read) McCarthy; daughter, Shelli (Reggie) Steeves; son, Gary McCarthy (Joanne) and by his sister, Gail (George) Archibald.
Besides his parents, James was pre-deceased by his sons, Larry and Brian and by his sister, Joan.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Campbell’s Funeral Home, 89 Bridge Street, Sackville, N.B. (364-8188). In keeping with James’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no visiting hours. A private grave-side service will take place on Thursday, September 6, 2012. Family and close friends are invited to a gathering at Gary and Joanne’s house, 29 Churchill Avenue, Sackville, N.B. from 2-5 pm on Thursday afternoon.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of James may be made to the Canadian Cancer Research Society, the Dorchester Fire Department New Fire Truck Fund, where James’s son Gary is a member, or to the charity of one’s choice. Donations to the Dorchester Fire Department Truck Fund may be paid at the funeral home or at the home of Gary and Joanne on Thursday afternoon.
