Peter, Elijah,Sebastian and Dante,
Thinking of you all as you journey through this time. Our families' paths crossed in many ways throughout our time in Sackville,Sheelagh was a very bright light for the world and we are grateful for having known her.She was a profound inspiration and mentor to me as an early childhood professional and community volunteer for several years. Her passion, attitude, energy and ability to build and sustain relationships were gifts she shared freely!
“The river never drinks its own water. The tree never tastes its own fruit. The field never consumes its own harvest. They selflessly strive for the well-being of all those around them. —Mewari proverb, India”
― Margaret J. Wheatley, Walk Out Walk On: A Learning Journey into Communities Daring to Live the Future Now
Through so many gestures she did selflessly strive for the well being of all those around her.She is lovingly remembered by our family,

I would like to offer my condolences to all of Sheelagh's family members. I did not know her well but her beautiful obituary describes her well. Of all the people in your family, I currently know Glenda the best and I taught Kelly and Kate many years ago in Junior High. You must all be so sad right now. It is so difficult to watch someone suffer as you have had to. I had planned on attending the funeral but I'm afraid the weather kept me off the roads. I hope you are all able to find comfort among your families during the upcoming Christmas season. Jayne M. Wilbur

I was very saddened to learn of Sheelagh's passing. I first met Sheelagh '96 when she became my son's speech therapist at Salem School. She had him for three years and when she told him he no longer needed her and she had to take on other children who did, he was very upset. He so liked his time with her! And his workbooks I still have. She was wonderful with him. I then had the opportunity of 'small' chats with her when she did a stint at the Drew with a few of the residents. She was wonderful with them also. I just wanted to share another story of someone who's life she affected.
Sincerely

Sheelagh was one of those rare lights in the world, effortlessly excelling at everything she did and yet living with grace. I have warm memories working with her at the Alberta Children’s Hospital and then for a brilliant year in Albuquerque. I remember her as a beautiful mother, an exceptional speech-language pathologist, an artistic home-maker, loving wife to Peter and a caring friend to me. Our very deepest sympathies to the Manchester and Callaghan families, we were very sad to hear the news.
Sheelagh was so genuine and compassionate, her love of family and friends, and care for clients and community was evident to all who were privileged to know and meet her. Sheelagh's leadership in the "Talk to Me" program was one example of her support for young families, which we were part of, and it's sweet to realize so many families will have learned the rhymes and songs from her that they passed on to their children. We won't ever forget that twinkle in Sheelagh's eyes and contagious smile.
Sending our best to you Peter, Elijah, Sebastian and Dante, this time must be beyond difficult, but know that so many people are holding you in their thoughts and hearts.

I was deeply saddened to hear of Sheelagh's passing. Sheelagh was my mentor. In my third and fourth years at MTA I took the opportunity to shadow her on a few occasions and immediately I knew Speech-Language Pathology was the profession for me. Sheelagh was a natural clinician. She had a way with clients that set them at ease from the very young to seniors nearing end of life. Her smile, her poise and her natural ability to help clients in need set her apart from others. I had tremendous respect and adoration for her right away. After completing the SLP degree at Dalhousie, I requested a final third year placement back in Sackville, NB. I was placed with Sheelagh and Susan and had a fantastic externship. I had a true appreciation for Sheelagh's skill as a clinician. She was caring and interested in clients and often went above and beyond to provide speech and language services. I returned to work shortly with Sheelagh and team at Extramural in Moncton and then took a position at the Amherst Hospital. Now living in Sackville full time, Sheelagh and I became friends. Not knowing many people and newly married, Sheelagh and Peter were welcoming and inclusive. Inviting us to socialize with them at home, go cross country skiing and exercise and train together. Sheelagh was fit and beautiful! Her eyes sparkled and her genuine qualities made you feel special and loved. She made me believe in myself as a new clinician and a person! I know she has touched many in the way that she has put a positive influence on my life. I truly believe Sheelagh Callaghan has been one of the driving forces behind my 16 year SLP career. I will miss Sheelagh greatly and thank her for all she has done for me.
