Obituary of Gertrude Genevieve Butcher

It is with great sadness that the family of Gertrude Butcher announce her passing on Friday, November 16, 2012 at her home in Sackville, N.B. Gertrude was 87 years of age. Born in Amherst, N.S. on April 6, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Leo and Clara (Casey) LeBlanc. Gertrude enjoyed traveling and spent four years in Germany in her earlier years. She loved taking care of children and they became a part of her life as if they were her own. She was a sports enthusiast and enjoyed curling, as well as watching golf and curling on television. Gertrude loved to laugh and was devoted to her family. Gertrude will be lovingly remembered by her children, Joan Butcher (David Weeks) of Sackville, N.B., Barbara (Garry) Lowther of Leicester, N.S., Danny Butcher of Charlottetown, PEI, Albert Butcher Jr. of Vancouver, BC and John LeBlanc of Ontario; daughter-in-law, Rita Cantelo of Montague, PEI; sisters, Tillie Stillman, Joan (Bill) Richard and Yvonne Allison; brother Leo LeBlanc Jr. of Nova Scotia; seven grandchildren, Will, Daly, Timm, Buffy, Paul, Mary and Nicholas; thirteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was pre-deceased by her husband, Albert Arthur Butcher in 1987; two sons, Donald David at age one and Glenn Butcher in 2000; two brothers, Roy and Bill LeBlanc and by her sister, Norma Gillis. Arrangements have been entrusted to Campbell’s Funeral Home, 89 Bridge Street, Sackville, N.B. (364-8188), from where visitation will take place on Monday, November 19, 2012 from 1-3 pm. Following the visitation, a grave-side service will take place at the Four Corners Cemetery, Middle Sackville, N.B. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Gertrude may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the charity of ones choice.
