Obituary of Mildred Aloyes Martin
It is with sadness but peace of heart, that the family of Mildred (Brown) Martin, announce her passing on Saturday, August 31,2013 at the Drew Nursing Home. Mildred was 88 years of age.
Born on August 2, 1925 in Saint John N.B., she was the daughter of the late Kenneth Charles and Annie Elizabeth (Blizzard) Brown.
Mildred was very devoted to her church, attending both St. Mark’s Anglican Church in Mount Whatley and St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Sackville, also serving as an active member of the ACW and the choir. In earlier years, she was a member of the AME Church in Amherst, N.S. Mildred was a member of the Purple Hat Birthday Group, member of the Legion, Branch #26, Sackville where she served on the Executive, and a former member of the Tantramar Twirlers. She was a homemaker and provided domestic care to families for many years, had a passion for music and puzzling and loved to travel, especially if there was a bus taking a group to enjoy the music of the Gaithers Gospel Group. Above all else, Mildred loved visiting with her family which was her top priority.
Mildred will be lovingly remembered by her four children, Greg (Denise) Martin of Aulac, N.B., Ruth Turner of Saint John, N.B., Theresa Martin of Hope, BC and Alma (David) Tower of Fall River, N.S.; her sister, Janice Gibson of BC; her brother, Ralph Brown; her eight grandchildren, Walter Turner, Tony Turner, Melody Turner, Kimberly Martin, Janna Martin, Alison Martin, Katie Tower and Scott Tower; her seven great-grandchildren and by many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Mildred was pre-deceased by her husband, Samuel Thomas Martin; her son, Myles Kenneth Martin and by her brother, John A. Brown.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Campbell’s Funeral Home, 89 Bridge Street, Sackville, N.B. (364-8188). In keeping with Mildred’s wishes cremation has taken place. Visiting hours will take place at the funeral home on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will take place on Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at 1 pm at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Sackville, with The Venerable Bonita LeBlanc officiating, assisted by The Reverend Robert LeBlanc. The burial will take place in St. Mark’s Cemetery, Mount Whatley, N.B.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mildred may be made to St. Mark’s Anglican Church, St. Paul’s Anglican Church or to the charity of one’s choice.
