Obituary of Edna Phinney
Sackville, N.B.- It is with sadness that the family of Edna Marie Phinney, announce her passing on Thursday, January 9, 2014 at the Sackville Memorial Hospital.
Born in Albert County, and moving to Dorchester as an infant, she was the daughter of the late Delbert and Dorothy (Cook) Steeves.
Edna was a member of the Main Street Baptist Church and the Fort Beausejour Chapter I.O.D.E. She and her husband enjoyed their winters in Florida where they enjoyed golfing with their friends and spent their summers at their cottage in Murray Corner.
After graduating from Business College, Edna worked as a secretary in the Dorchester Court House Municipal Office, Mount Allison University Library and then purchased a flower shop, before moving to Fredericton for 15 years working for the New Brunswick government. Returning to Sackville, she and her husband retired in 1997.
Edna will be lovingly remembered by her husband of over 65 years, Otis Phinney; son, Stephen (Audrey) Phinney of Markham Ont.; daughter, Beverley (David) Goguen of Riverview; five grandchildren, Meredith, Rebecca, Matthew (Rachelle), Sara and Allison and by her sister, Faye Mitchell (Stephen) Moncton.
She was predeceased by an infant son Jeffrey Thomas; two sisters, Ferne (Les) Wilson and Jeanne (Harry) Stevens.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Campbell’s Funeral Home, 89 Bridge Street, Sackville (364-8188). In keeping with Edna’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place on Sunday, January 12, 2014 from 7-9 pm and on Monday from 1 pm until the time of the funeral. The funeral service will be held at Campbell’s Funeral Home on Monday, January 13, 2014 at 2pm with Pastor Danny Barrett officiating. Burial will take place in the spring in Sackville Cemetery. Following the service all are invited to a reception at the funeral home.
