Obituary of Basil Carmen Sears

Basil C. Sears passed away quietly at the Drew Nursing Home in Sackville, on Friday, December 28, 2012. He was 90 years of age. Born in Midgic, N.B. on June 17, 1922, he was the son of the late Alice (Estabrooks) and Hersey Sears of Midgic. Basil was a veteran of the Second World War, an honorary member of the Sackville Fire Department with many years of service and had retired in 1984 from Mount Allison University after twenty-one years of employment. Pre-deceased by his loving wife, Shirley (Beattie) in 2011, Basil will be lovingly remembered by his five children, Barbara (Brian) Hulley of Upper Cape, N.B., Sandra Boal of Ottawa, Ontario, Janice (Rob) Legere of Shediac Bridge, N.B., Michael (Liza) of Dorchester, N.B. and Kevin of Moncton, N.B. ; sister, Marjorie (Merton) Bice of Sarnia, Ontario; daughter-in-law, Mary Jane Sears; seven grandchildren, Jennifer, Cindi, Alison, Alicia, Taylor, Kristine and Sara; eight great-grandchildren, Justin, Cole, Cassandra, Caleb, Olivia, Hayden, Mackenzie and Aiden. He was pre-deceased by his five brothers, Logan, Wardlow, Hudson, Roderick and Curly and by his two sisters, Selma (Parker) Estabrooks and Shirley (Junior) Estabrooks. Arrangements have been entrusted to Campbell’s Funeral Home, 89 Bridge Street, Sackville, N.B. (364-8188). In keeping with Basil’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no visiting hours. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, January 6, 2012 at 2 pm with Rev. Hal Lowther officiating. Burial will take place in the spring at the Sackville Cemetery. The family extends an invitation to those who are unable to attend the funeral service, to join them at a reception in celebration of Basil’s life at the funeral home following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Basil may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society, Canadian Cancer Research Society or to the charity of ones choice.
