Obituary of Phyllis Phinney
It is with great sadness that the family of Phyllis Irene (Patterson) Phinney announce her passing at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Saint John, N.B. after a courageous battle with dementia, on Sunday, July 6, 2014.
Born in Sackville NB on December 4th, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Hersey J. and Linda E. (Fahey) Patterson.
Phyllis left the family farm in Cookville to begin her career at the Sackville Tribune Post. After leaving the work force to be a stay-at-home mom for her two boys, she returned to work at Estabrooks Plumbing and Heating, Ben’s Esso and FRS Supplies, where she worked until her retirement in 1997. She was a tireless volunteer, serving in many roles for the Catholic Women’s League, Ladies Fireman’s Auxiliary, and canvassing for various charities.
“Nanny/ Grammy,” will be sadly missed by her three grandchildren, Brooke, Kyle and Jaden; her two sons, Mark (Cindy) of Quispamsis N.B., and Chris (Shelley) of Cole Harbour N.S. and by her sister, Delma (Peter) Gomille of Campbell River, B.C.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Kenneth (Bill) Phinney and by her sister Shirley Johnson.
Special thanks to the staff on the 8th floor Transitional Care unit at St. Joseph’s Hospital for their wonderful care and compassion, as well as Rick Benson for his special support to the family.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Campbell’s Funeral Home, 89 Bridge Street, Sackville, NB (506) 364-8188. The funeral service will take place on Thursday, July 10, 2014 at 2 pm from St. Vincent’s Roman Catholic Church, 63 Charlotte Street, Sackville, with Father Allison Carroll officiating. Visiting hours will take place at Campbell’s Funeral Home on July 10 from 12 pm until the time of the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Phyllis may be made to St. Vincent’s Roman Catholic Church or to the charity of one’s choice.
