Obituary of Leona May Patterson
Sackvile, N.B.- The death of Leona May (Gilroy) Patterson, age 71, of Jolicure, N.B., occurred at the Sackville Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, April 10, 2007, following a lengthy and heroic battle with lung cancer.
Born on March 4, 1936, in Stanley, N.S., Leona was the daughter of the late Stevely A. Gilroy and the late Lena M. Glode.
Leona was a homemaker and a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She had a great love for life and a laugh that will forever be remembered by all those who knew and loved her.
In addition to her husband, Garnet of Jolicure, N.B., she is survived by one daughter, Marlene (Terry Gates) of Middleton, N.B.; two sons, David of Jolicure and Garnie at home; five sisters, Josephine McMaster of Amherst, N.S., Evelyn Maddison of Stanley, N.S., Phyllis Chapman (Wesley Sears) of Amherst, N.S., Frances Wood (Croyden) and Carol Moore, both of Parrsboro, N.S.; three brothers, Donald of East Leicester, N.S., Harold (Effie) of Steeves Mountain, N.B. and George (Joyce of Stanley, N.S.; a great friend and Uncle, William Gilroy of Amherst, N.S.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Arrangements are entrusted to Campbell’s Funeral Home, 89 Bridge Street, Sackville, N.B. (506) 364-8188. As per Leona’s last wishes, her body will be cremated and there will be a private service for family. Burial will take place in the Point de Bute Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Leona may be made to the Moncton Hospital Oncology Unit, Sackville Memorial Hospital Palliative Care Unit or to the charity of ones choice.
