Obituary of Matilda Mary Cormier
Sackville, N.B.- It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Matilda M. Cormier, age 93, on Sunday, October 7, 2007 at the Drew Nursing Home.
Born in Upper Aboujagne, N.B. on July 9, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Leonie (Legere) Cormier.
Matilda moved to Sackville in 1940 and was employed by Senator Copp. During the war years Matilda was employed at Fawcett’s Foundry as a Riveter. In 1953, Matilda opened Star canteen in Middle Sackville and operated it until her retirement in 1979. Matilda was a resident of the Drew Nursing Home in Sackville since 1991, was an avid reader and a member of St. Vincent’s Catholic Church.
Matilda will be sadly missed by her son, Perry (Janet) Cormier of Sackville; grandchildren, Lori (Jason) Leaman and Philip Cormier (Brandi Tuzo), all of Sackville; great granddaughter Jade Elizabeth Leaman of Sackville and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brothers and sisters, Camille, Agnus, Exelda, Auguste, Anna, Celine and Henri.
Arrangements are entrusted to Campbell’s Funeral Home, 89 Bridge Street, Sackville, N.B. (364-8188). Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation by request of the family. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 11, 2007 at 11:00 AM at St. Vincent’s Catholic Church, Sackville, N.B. with Father officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Matilda may be made to the Sackville Memorial Hospital Auxiliary or to the charity of ones choice.
