Obituary of Eunice Marjorie McCormack

Sackville, N.B. – The death of Eunice M. (Dixon) McCormack, age 101, occurred on Tuesday, October 30, 2007, in the comfort of her home. One of Sackville’s oldest residents, Eunice was just two weeks away from her 102nd birthday and was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Born on November 9, 1905, in Sackville, N.B., she was the daughter of the late James Leaman and Margaret Olivia Louise (Avard) Dixon.Eunice graduated from Mount Allison University in 1928 and went on to teach at Mount Allison Academy. In 1932, Eunice married Major Waldo McCormack. She was a charter member of the Sackville Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, a long time and active member of the Sackville United Church, member of the U.C.W and member of the Women’s Fellowship of the Sackville United Church. Eunice was known for her great interest and knowledge of history and genealogy. In her later years, one of Eunice’s greatest pleasures was going to eat at the Bell Inn in Dorchester, N.B. and meeting and talking with people.She will be greatly missed by her sister-in-law Joyce Dixon of Sackville, N.B. and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Waldo McCormack; her only child Marjorie McCormack and her two brothers Edgar and Carman. Arrangements are entrusted to Campbell’s Funeral Home, 89 Bridge Street, Sackville, N.B. (364-8188). The family will receive visitors on Thursday, November 1, 2007 from 2-4 PM at Campbell’s Funeral Home. The funeral service will take place from the Funeral Home on Friday, November 2, 2007 at 11 AM, with Father Kevin Stockall officiating. Burial will take place in the Sackville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Eunice may be made to the Extramural Program, Sackville Memorial Hospital Auxiliary or the charity of one’s choice.
