Obituary of Ronald B. Ward
The death of Ronald Bernard Ward, age 68 of Sackville, N. B. occurred at the Sackville Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, January 16, 2008.
Born in Middle Sackville, he was the son of the late Wallace Ward and Dulcie (Ward, McFee) Wheaton.
Ron served with the Canadian Armed Forces from 1955 to 1981, having served in Gagetown, Germany, Egypt and Sioux Lookout. Ron, always the military man, was a devoted member of the Canadian Legion, especially Branch No. 26, where he served most positions on the Executive, was Sargeant–at-Arms, and also Service Officer. He was always there for fund-raising, banquets, bingo, rock-a-thons and could be counted on to be an organizer and the life of the party. Being a terrific dancer, Ron loved his country and bluegrass music and would rise from his wheelchair to do a little step or two.
Ron will be sadly missed by his daughter Susan, Sackville, N. B.and granddaughters Ashley and Nikki, Ontario. He is also survived by his sister Rowlena (Eugene) Cole, Pictou, N.S.; Connie Ward, Aulac, N.B. companion and devoted caregiver, Brenda LaCourse, Sackville, N. B.; nieces, Jennifer Murphy, Dalhousie, N. B. and Angela MacDonald, Pictou, N. S.
He was predeceased by his parents, Dulcie and Wallace, his grandson, little Joshua, his sister Patsy Beaule, brother Austin Ward , half- brothers Stanley and Charles Ward , half-sisters, Ruth Bulmer and Faye Oulton., step-father Fred Wheaton, and maternal and paternal grandparents.
The remains are resting at Campbell’s Funeral Home, Sackville, N. B. with visitation Friday, January 18, 2008 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #26, will hold a service at 7:30 PM. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, January, 19, 2008 at 2 PM from Campbell’s Funeral Home, 89 Bridge Street, Sackville, N. B. with Rev. Vernon Vickruck officiating . Cremation will follow. Burial will take place in the spring in the Sackville Cemetery. A reception is to be held at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #26, Sackville, following the funeral service.
