Obituary of Granville Wilson Richards
Sackville, N.B.- Granville W. Richards, age 87, of Sackville, N.B., passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Saturday, March 8, 2008 at the Sackville Memorial Hospital.
Born on November 14, 1920 in Midgic, N.B., he was the son of the late Frank and Edith (Fillmore) Richards.
Granville will be sadly missed by his wife of sixty-five years, Rhona (Estabrooks) Richards of Sackville; three daughters, Doreen Richards of Dorchester, N.B., Marie Callender (Wade Hart) and Paulette (Gerald) Swimm both of Sackville; two brothers, Sherman Richards of Midgic, N.B. and Robert (Cynthia) Richards of Sackville, N.B.; eight grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his infant son; six brothers, Ralph, Tom, John, Cliff, Joseph and Percy; two sisters, Blanche Phinney and Charlotte Richards and his son-in-law Clayton Callender.
Granville was retired from CNR, where he was employed for thirty-seven years. He was a volunteer fireman for many years and was an Honorary Member of the Sackville Fire Department. Granville loved to fish, play cards and go camping but most of all loved to spend time with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Arrangements are entrusted to Campbell’s Funeral Home, 89 Bridge Street, Sackville, N.B. (364-8188). Cremation has taken place. The family will receive visitors on Tuesday, March 11, 2008 from 6-9 PM at Campbell’s Funeral Home. The Sackville Fire Department will have a service at 7 PM. The funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at the Midgic Baptist Church with Pastor Hal Lowther officiating. Burial will take place in the spring in the Midgic Cemetery. Following the service, family and friends are invited to join in a time of fellowship and remembrance at the Sackville Fire Hall.
Donations in memory of Granville would be gratefully accepted to the Sackville Fire Department, Sackville Hospital, Midgic Baptist Church or to the charity of ones choice.
