Obituary of Isabel Leslie Crawford
Isabel Leslie Crawford left this world on Good Friday, April 3, 2015, at the Drew Nursing Home, Sackville, NB, surrounded by her four children and a roomful of love. Kind and generous to all, she profoundly touched the lives of many people over her 97 years.
Isabel, daughter of Margaret (Fraser) Mackay and Alexander Mackay was the eldest of four children. She was born in 1917 on a farm in Haliburton outside Pictou, NS.
Survived by her children Margaret (Fred) Anderson, Sackville, John (Janet) Crawford, Sackville, Ellen (Greg) Blake, Fredericton, Elizabeth (Robert ) Wilkin, Quispamsis, her grandchildren Kate and Leighan, Graeme and Eric, Sarah, Joanna and Reece and her one month old great granddaughter Ellis Louise Isabel Baird. Predeceased by her husband George and her brothers Ronald and Alastair, she is survived by her sister Helen Blakelock of Oakville, ON and many dear nieces and nephews.
A graduate of Dalhousie University with over 10 years of teaching in NS, Isabel met George in Pictou where they married and resided for many years before moving to Sackville in 1966. She devoted her life to family, church and volunteering.
Isabel requested her remains be given to Dalhousie Medical School. Interment will be at a later date in Pine Grove Cemetery in Stewiacke, NS, where she will rest beside her husband George. A memorial service will be held on her birthday July 10, at 3:00 at the Drew Nursing Home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Drew Nursing Home Foundation, the Sackville Memorial Hospital Foundation and the Sackville United Church or charity of your choice.
