Obituary of Ronald A. Gillis

It is with great sadness that the family of Ronald Gillis announce his passing on Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at the Sackville Memorial Hospital. Born in New Waterford, Cape Breton on September 13, 1951, he was the son of the late Alex and Elza (Aitkens) Gillis. Ronnie was a member of UA Local 325 Plumbers and Pipefitters for over 40 years and he also drove school bus for School District 2 for twelve years. He was a kind, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend who had a keen interest in cars and enjoyed working around his vehicles, garage and yard. Ronnie will be lovingly remembered by his wife and best friend of 35 years, Madeline (MacDonald); son, Aaron (Tammy) Gillis; daughters, Cheryl Gillis and Natalie (Jason) Pauley, all of Sackville, N.B.; grandchildren, Kinsey Mariasine, Felicia and Dorian Gillis and Marshall Pauley; sister, Sandy (Joey) Young of New Waterford, Cape Breton; mother-in-law, Viola Little of Sydney, Cape Breton; brother-in-law, Brian (Jeanette) MacDonald of New Waterford, Cape Breton; sister-in-law, Ann (Stevie) MacNeil of Sarnia, Ontario and by many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was pre-deceased by his nephew, Ryan Young and by his father-in-law, David Little. Arrangements have been entrusted to Campbell’s Funeral Home, 89 Bridge Street, Sackville, N.B. (364-8188). In keeping with Ronald’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no visiting hours. Funeral Mass will take place on Monday, April 22, 2013 at 2 pm from St. Vincent’s Roman Catholic Church, Sackville, with Father Allison Carroll officiating. Internment will take place at Saint Leonard Parish, New Waterford, Cape Breton at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Ronald may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada or to the charity of ones choice. The family wishes to thank the staff of Sackville Memorial Hospital for their care and kindness.
