Obituary of Madeline I. Crossman

Clinton/Berlin - Madeline I. (Doherty) Crossman, 94, formerly of Clinton, and Berlin, died Monday, January 31, 2011 in Golden Living Center, Fitchburg, following an illness. Her husband, Raymond O. Crossman died in 1974. She is survived by her daughter, Shirley M. Fischer of Lancaster; a granddaughter, Kimberly Fischer of VA; two grandsons: Robert Fischer of Lancaster, MA and Douglas Fischer and his wife, Heather, of Rutland, MA; three sisters: Frances Card of Cape Cod, MA, Nellie Johnson and Eva Estabrooks, both in Sackville, N.B.; a sister-in-law, Dolores Doherty of Sterling, MA; three great-grandchildren: Kyle, Haley and Alexis; numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Four brothers: Leaman, Leslie, Reginald, and Donald Doherty, and a sister, Georgina predeceased her. Madeline was born and raised in Sackville, New Brunswick, Canada, the daughter of Bert and Ethel (Ward) Doherty and attended local schools. In 1951, Madeline and Raymond settled in Clinton where they resided for many years. She worked at the former Colonial Press, Inc. of Clinton for several years before its closing, and later at DTS in Maynard, retiring in 1980. Madeline was a long-time member of The Daughters of Rebekah, and held the position of Noble Grand, Treasurer, and Chaplain throughout her years of service. She was an avid golfer, and won numerous area championship tournaments. Her family wishes to thank the Golden Living Center’s nursing staff on 2 West, especially Julie Lashua, Social Services, for their outstanding, compassionate care. Madeline’s funeral service is to be held on Monday, February 7, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in Campbell’s Funeral Home, Sackville. Burial will take place in the spring in the Sackville Cemetery. Visitation will take place from 2 -4 p.m. on Sunday, February 6.
